Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

^^^ The East Side 3rd district has largely emptied out with African American populations moving to Raytown and Lees Sunmit-type suburbs for better schools and less crime. West side districts and downtown proper have seen significant growth. I think you’ll see much more eastern movement of home renov...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

https://www.mlb.com/royals/news/royals-alter-new-stadium-plans This should have been the type of messaging from the beginning from Sherman and the Royals. Some humility asking for money from normal people, joining an already vibrant neighborhood, acting with class and care. They are sounding more c...

MLB wouldn’t approve a Green Monster today. The balls would be landing on Oak. How about a computerized water cannon/feature that knocks home run balls headed for Oak down?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Why do the offices and hotel have to go east of Oak? Take the gas station and storage place or tear out the new bank building just south of where home plate would be integrating the old KC Star building into the stadium.

Would have to be the smallest form factor of any MLB stadium, maybe ever?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

If the city is going to give money for the stadium and development it needs to be structured to incentivize more development. If they give more upfront money, the later pieces have a likelihood of being cut. It has to be a carrot to entice more. I disagree. The development will come regardless of t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

If the Royals were smart they would de-couple the K from their ask for a tax to support a downtown stadium plan. The "Save the K" crowd would instantly be mooted if there was no indication that the K was "Going away". The county preparing a demo RFP and the Royals indicating tha...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't take that to mean he thinks nothing should be done east of oak I don't think that's even realistic with this plan I thought the whole point of the Royals downtown for them was generating additional revenue through their own development that would fund team development. If there isn't any, h...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The Mayor is now on record saying he doesn't want this project to come across Oak Street at all. He is also saying he doesn't even think they should build any kind of entertainment, restaurant or bars as there are already plenty in the area. Two things are interesting about this: 1. This is a compl...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

It's anything but a zero percent chance. Royals are the third smallest media market in the second smallest metro in baseball. There are far more lucrative places the owners could take the franchise and they will do just that if the franchise becomes a drain on their resources. In fact, the only arg...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

KCAI has no interest in moving, Nelson has no interest in expanding into Southmoreland, especially after Rockhill nixed expansion on grounds of Laura Nelson home. This would be nothing like the former Nelson expansion, something they really need with space getting scarce. It would have no effect on...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Sounds like the city leadership is standing up to closing Oak street. Additionally the Mayor now pushing back on any wholesale demo and "development" east of Oak. This is a good move and would push me closer to a yes vote. This is why you push back. An announcement from the city on plans ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

There are no guarantees the Royals come back to the table in any meaningful way if this vote fails. At least two destinations seeking Major League Baseball have already reached out to the Royals. If the offer is right, they could take it. Zero percent chance. Talked about on here ad nauseum, Royals...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Why Jackson County? I don't think a non-urban Jackson County park does what the Royals feel like they need. Given the issues with East Village, I don't see many other options if the Crossroads vote fails other than waiting, educating and trying again (and perhaps acquire some of the land in advance...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Because we have one of the most historical stadiums that has aged well in comparison to those who have been torn down over the years. The idea of building a new flashy, modern stadium and abandoning something as Iconic at Arrowhead to maybe, possibly get one Super Bowl is crazy. The issue with the ...
