Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

The building wasn't in good shape, imho ugly, and didn't have a great ground floor. Not much worth fighting for. Big fight was on making sure it did not become surface parking. Happy to say that this will become a grassy lot. Cause we need more fenced off grassy lots DT?! And personally, I don’t ca...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

I hate that this building came down with little to no fight at all and even passive approval from many on this board. I’m disappointed in all of you.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties

This is a smart move for them. There are/will be several prime location spots with landlords eager to bring them in at cheaper rent. The Bluestem needs to be in a prime spot as opposed to next to a Sonic and GameStop.

Why do I get the feeling this thread will get lots of use over the next several years? It’s the new ballpark/P&L thread.

Re: Highway Removal and Re-Aligment in Downtown

What does this give you except a connection of the north Westside to Crossroads for the elites? Removing all the scars from highways and railroads should be one of the city's top priorities when it comes to revitalizing the entire downtown area, including all of the adjacent neighborhoods. Those th...

Southwest Blvd and the west side are not exclusively elites. Neither are those is Westside South (the area south of i35).
I said “north Westside”.

Re: OFFICIAL - KC Star Printing Press

What do you lose if you use the Star building as the 3B concourse and go east? Can you avoid taking down the Uhaul building? It’s the only tall building I can remember.

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?

Isn't Midtown Market Place in a Strongtowns article that details how the buildings there before would have /did produce more tax revenue than what is there now. Would be interested to see that article and how they determined value. Did they count just tax revenue to the city or tax revenue diverted...

Re: OFFICIAL - KC Star Printing Press

Couldn’t the presses be converted to some other form of printing? Wallpaper, beer labels, boxes, idk. Seems there should be something. Or...we could just turn it into a Midwest aquarium like I’ve been saying for a decade.

Re: Is Midtown Marketplace one of the city's greatest blunders?

I get the frustration at tearing down whole neighborhoods, but MM has been largely instrumental in rebuilding Midtown. All the tax money from the development goes to residents fixing up houses in the form of $10,000 matching funds for exterior work. This program started in the areas directly around ...

With the asbestos remediation, it would have been a great building to convert to apartments for lower income gov't workers.
And yet no one was interested in buying the building and doing that.
Not true.

It doesn't break out downtown from Central KCMO but Central KC blew out rest of metro with new units, 8.8% increase for Central KC vs. 2.8% for metro.
Some of us remember when this would have only happened in a dream.

Fighting the state for a court house wasn't deemed prudent during construction.
Give the lawyers a suite and build them a new building down the street. They’d do it.
