Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Very little chance of local ownership. I’d say the only way would be if lease rates and percentages drop so much Taubman begins to lose money and filed bankruptcy. Even then, a local buyer would probably lose out to a national name with deeper pockets.

Re: COVID19

I know local hospital is doing four tests on each potential coronavirus infection to make sure of accuracy. Makes the calls for, “test everyone!” seem misguided.

Governor Parson said today that drop-off in state tax revenue will blow a huge hole in the state budget, and large cuts will be necessary.
I wonder if this could delay the Broadway Bridge replacement.

Re: NFL Draft

I wonder if the NFL will delay their drafts like MLB is considering or will just have a teleconference draft. If cities are delayed a year, we might have the streetcar expansion in place when they come here. (Looking for some crumb of good news in a crazy world)

Re: Fast Food Options

I think trying to change the mind of American fast food conglomerates toward eliminating drive thrus would be more difficult than trying to attract European chains that already have an understanding of urban living.

The simplest path is to use Main if Walnut is gone
If Walnut ends at the park, it would be more likely that they start closing that street for events next to the P&L District instead of Grand....an added plus.

Won’t someone think about the cars????
I’m thinking of the [street]cars. Without Walnut, overflows from Grand closures will go to Main.
Oak.

Re: Capping the Loop

Walnut doesn’t even go anywhere and carries very little traffic. Make it the walking connection between DT and the Crossroads.

Re: Capping the Loop

I know I’m the minority, but I don’t mind them closing one street to make more continuous park space. Why are cars always the priority? Take Grand or Main or Oak. This should it hurt traffic in any considerable way.

I always assumed it would go all the way to Oak. Not the case?

Interesting. Wonder what it takes for them to allow it? More foot traffic counts? More residents?
I would guess that the a large number of Door Dash deliveries at locations DT would help change their mind.

Re: Fast Food Options

Probably thinking of the old old KFC Pizza hut that is now a Chinese place. The franchisee of that place retired but was very successful Yeah, I forgot it closed. I’d say we have some good options for fast food DT today depending on what area. I get the McD want, but I’d prefer local places reign D...

You have a Chipotle and Burger King, Jimmy Johns (eww), KFC/Pizza Hut, Picklemans and plenty of counter places. What else do you need/want?

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

I’m great with the walking, but would prefer to see animals while I do it. Putting the zoo straddled on a huge cliff and train line means there is a huge disconnect from one part of the zoo to the other. It also makes it very difficult for those with disabilities and children.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

Nothing left from my childhood. Surely if you were going to build a zoo in this town, this wouldn’t be what it would be. Separated by river and railroad tracks, far away area needs a boat or sky tram to get to... Might as well have chosen a new location and truly started over. But, KC.

Re: Aggressive panhandlers

I almost saw a homeless person killed by cars yesterday at Main and 47th. He was out in traffic with a sign but seemed impaired and two cars went quickly past him on either side. I actually thought he was dead because he knelt down when they passed. I really don’t know why no one does anything at th...

It felt like the first time they went through the normal development process but didn’t talk to the councilpeople to win approval. They assumed that if it got sign off from city staff, it would go through. They essentially forgot to kiss the ring and got yanked back.

Yeah, Westport Ice Cream closed a couple of weeks ago...couldn't come to terms with the landlord or something.
Yep, had lunch in Westport and just saw the sign for lease. There are lots of for lease signs in Westport right now.
