That makes too much sense Thrillcekr.  It's that kind of crazy thinkin' that will get you branded a pariah in this town.

Re: Beacon Hill Tax Revenue

Infastructure impovements are part of the lot cost and are passed on to the owner. The city requires them but does not pay for them (unless they pay indirectl through a TIF program). But the burden on police, trash, snow removal and schools is real. Initially that is true, but those brand new stree...

Re: Beacon Hill Tax Revenue

I don't think it's an increased burden.  Like you said, most of the people moving here are probably already in the city.  With the blight gone, there will be less demand on police and emergency services.  Plus, those people will still be paying other taxes. But I think there will be an increased bu...

Re: Commerce Bank / Is It Blighted?

City, state and federal leaders must start looking at infastructure costs differently, and start to assess cost-for-return ratios to development. They must look at each block, or sq. mile, as a tax revenue generator versus tax expenditure consumer.  Most decisions about city planning can be control...

It's not totally implausible that there's another dimension where the universal speed limit is higher, and it's not totally implausible that we can reach that other dimension by tearing small holes in the fabric of spacetime and slipping through. But it's all theoretical, and some physicists say we...

The site seems to be a portfolio piece for cribmedia.  Notice none of the links work.  I think all the New Year's stuff is just placeholder text to show off the design. skybarkansascity.com is not up although the domain has been reserved. The KCMO Permit system shows a pre-construction meeting set f...

That's good information Chingon.  Thanks! I've often pondered the firetruck and firemen at Costco but it never really bothered me.  The wife kind of digs firemen anyway so it gives her something to look at other than 5 gallon buckets of detergent.  8)  Now I know they're just shopping for the fireho...

From the following link:  http://www.nograffiti.com/grafnews/10_21_03/how_does_graffiti.htm I cannot vouch for the accuracy of any of these figures, but the idea that homebuyers might pass by a neighborhood with lots of graffiti seems plausible. How Does Graffiti "Hurt"? Graffiti vandals b...

Re: Midtown Graffiti problem

If someone has to take the time to clean it up it is not harmless. Exactly.  And in my opinion it is a 911 call.  You're observing a crime in progress.  That calls for a police officer to be dispatched to stop the crime.  From the KCPD FAQ: Q. When should I call 911? A. You should call 911 in any e...

well st. louis style ribs is actually the name of the cut...that doesn't bother me...it's the bad bbq that does. Famous Dave's is actually pretty good barbeque.  I used to eat there all the time when I lived in Minneapolis.  Their Uptown location had a pretty cool decor along with a live music stag...

Famous Dave's?  A Minnesota-based barbeque joint in downtown Kansas City that features "St. Louis Style" ribs on its menu.  I don't want to be one of the naysayers but come on!

I have to agree with sethyg.  I preferred Super Models From Outer Space.  Valley is still pretty good though.

The wife and I haven't decided if we're going out on "amateur night" yet, but if we do it will most likely be at Late Night.  We have a lot of friends going.
