Re: New major version of phpBB, and PHP

I've copied the avatars over, but it looks like a lot are still missing. If you want yours to appear, I recommend grabbing it again and uploading.

I don't know if it's real or if it's just late at night, but the forum seems even faster now. Anybody else think so?

New major version of phpBB, and PHP

I'm still dialing things in, as I had to go a bit more nuclear with the update than in previous updates. We are now using phpBB version 3.3.0, up from 3.2.8, and php version 7.3, up from 5.6. I see we're missing avatars, so I will try to pull those from the backed up old forum, but if you see anythi...

Re: Move to a new server

Has anyone else found themselves needing to log back in every visit since the move? I click "Remember me" each time and it never does. That was definitely the case for me before the move to https, but now my logins persist on all my devices. Though also, if it does idle me out, my browser will duti...

Re: Site Logo

...that being said, I definitely prefer the view from the north. I also love the view from Strawberry Hill.

Re: Site Logo

I personally would prefer a dark mode, as I want everything dark now, but whatever people want is fine with me. My biggest concern about customizing the theming is how to handle it after the next and all future releases of phpbb, wherein deep structural changes seem to be relatively common, frequent...

Re: HTTPS

There, that's done. Requests to www and forum now just immediately redirect to https://kcrag.com. The DNS update may take a couple hours, but it's done.

Re: HTTPS

Hmm, maybe I'll just make a virtual host entry for www too, that behaves exactly the same as the one I had to set up for forum dot kcrag.

Re: HTTPS

I have been all week but only at work Not the end of the world, but it’s still happening. I would highly appreciate a screenshot of the error you are seeing, along with as much information as you're willing to give about how you try to connect. The URL, especially. If you would feel more comfortabl...

Re: Site Logo

I'm not married to any particular aesthetic. As such, dimensions are up to you. I like the look that fills the header horizontally, but that's my own preference, and from the look of it now I clearly have no idea what I'm doing.

Re: Move to a new server

Bahua, a question that perhaps you can answer. Remember before the rag when the forum was on KCSkycrapers? At that time there was another side to the site for uploading images. Just wondering, were those all lost somewhere along the way? Sorry I missed this until now. KCPowercat operated the KCS si...

Site Logo

I found a public domain image of the skyline, and cropped it to my delight. Unfortunately, that is where my graphic design prowess ends. I seek now a talented, or at least competent graphic designer or designers to improve this image or make a better one. I would like for the site to have some kind ...

OK, I've reinstated the redirect. Now if you load http://forum.kcrag.com, it'll just redirect to https://kcrag.com.

Re: HTTPS

It has come to my attention that there are still some people trying to use forum.kcrag.com, which hasn't been in use other than as a redirect for kcrag.com, for like ten years. Please don't do this. I couldn't believe there were still some.

HTTPS

You may notice the URL has an "https:" in it now, instead of an, "http:" which it had for the first.... 13 years of its existence? After getting the forum migrated to new hosting, I figured it would be smart to get with the times and get this thing encrypted. It's working great for me on mobile and ...

Move to a new server

Apologies for the unannounced downtime. I just updated the forum software to the latest version, and copied the backups to the new server where kcrag will live for the foreseeable future. You may experience some missing content, as the name propagation pixies make their way around the internet. The ...

Re: Forum is slow/unresponsive

Behold! Old posts are now accessible! Or at least they are for me. Thankfully all I had to do was muddle through phpbb's convoluted update system.
