Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

Placing your stadium at an average of over 30 minutes away from the meat of the metro's population doesn't seem like a good way to build a fanbase...but I guess they needed a stadium RIGHT NOW so I wish them the best.  With their games mostly only weekends that should be less of an issue. This loca...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

And I bet 95% of them are people that currently reside within a few miles of Community America Ballpark...which means that you totally missed my point.  I'm not talking about Wyco/Joco suburbanite ex-TBones fans that have nothing better to do than go see their friendly neighborhood temporarily-relo...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

Thats a stretch...Its not like they're NOT already playing games in Wyco.... What I don't get about this is how the wizards say that the existing retail at Village West will help drive business, rather than build new retail on the Bannister site that will take more time to fill than the existing re...

Re: Wizards could ditch Bannister site in favor of Wyandotte County

STAR bonds to bring 4000 jobs from MO to a field in Kansas. Some things in KC will simply never change. Now it's not just JoCo, but WyCo too. No way can KCMO and MO compete with that. It's simply impossible. KCK has nothing to lose and everything to gain, while KCMO would literally have to pay mone...

Re: Wizards 2009

I can understand how the driving part could be a problem, but why not have the family meet you downtown then go to the game? For those of you who haven't given a game at the CAB a chance, you should.  The atmosphere at the games is night and day compared to what it was a couple of years ago at Arrow...

Re: MU vs. KU - a sports competition that will determine superiority FOREVER!!!

That is certainly another good reason to follow your team. Not quite like making a roadie to Lubbock or Waco.  :) My senior year at KU (1997) my friends and I made three road trips to watch the Hawks play...Lincoln, Manhattan, and Waco.  It was a combination of a great team and the fact that I had ...

Re: MU vs. KU - a sports competition that will determine superiority FOREVER!!!

The huge John Brown painting was hilarious.  It was up during most breaks in the game and on the big screen over center court.  I do not think that they showed it on the broadcast. I didn't catch it while I was watching the game this afternoon, but when I rewatched the game tonight I did notice tha...

Why do the coach of the year awards always have to go to the coach of the program who exceeds expectations put on them by the fans and media?

Re: Tour of Missouri Pro Cycling Race

It's cool that KC is the finish line.  I will be there. But northern MO?  Is it really worth it?  Southern MO is beautiful and if full of tourism destinations etc. Northern MO is pretty bland, flat and economically poor and not really the best way to show off the state. But whatever works, I unders...

Re: Big 12 Basketball 2008

And either Pullen or Clemente would start over Morningstar, so I assume that KU is not a contender either? For once I'm going to agree with Maitre D on something sports related. If you've watched any of the KU games you would see how valuable Morningstar has been this season.  He's been pla...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

It has made a huge difference with John's being closed the last few weeks.  The area is much more quite, but a lot less enjoyable.  I'm not looking forward to the summer because I always enjoyed the fact that there was a lot of people walking around going to or from the bar.  Maybe something else wi...

Re: Downtown Living

I moved downtown to 10th & Wyandotte around May 2007 after a few years in JoCo.  I grew up in the Northland and have also put in two different 4 year stints in Lawrence.  I've enjoyed living downtown a lot, but I still miss a lot of the things that the suburbs can offer.  Lawrence is probably st...

It was so nice to be able to watch KU play and then walk a few blocks home.  That hasn't happened since my freshman year in the dorms.

Re: The unrelenting brainlessness of local TV news

Anyway, they did give auto burglary stats for area malls. Oak Park had like 28, Indy Center 24, Zona Rosa 9, Legends 35, Plaza was like 89, but come on, the plaza is far more than a shopping center. Anyway.... I would be curious to see what "area" made up the Plaza for those stats.  I hav...

Re: 43% of people in KC not born in KS/MO?

I was born at the now defunct St. Mary's hospital and have lived in the KC area for 30+ years.  The farthest I have moved away from KC was to Lawrence for two four year stretches.

Add me to the list of people who will miss Steve & Barry's.  I've picked up a bunch of their t-shirts over the past year and have had no problems with them yet.

I walked by a couple of times yesterday and it's starting to look good in there.  The flooring is in, most of the cases were being set up, and they were installing/testing the sprinkler system yesterday afternoon.

Re: 2008 Big 12 Hoops Predictions

Never heard of that or seen it and I've seen a ton of footage from Bramlage and been to a ton of games. I honestly can not remember how long ago it was but they used to have a couch pretty close to the floor that someone would be upgraded to with the winning seat ticket.  I remember there being one...

I'm not sure if Bramlage currently has a couch but I know that they used to for a number of years.
