Re: Capping the Loop

I don't understand. 14th and Grand is a "T" intersection. What would be underpassed beside Grand, the arena? The arena already is turned toward 14th. Do you all mean 13th?

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

Along with the rolling roof, the original plan for the sports complex had a "space needle." Maybe that could be revisited. KC no longer has any high altitude restaurants, revolving or stationary.

Re: 12th and Broadway site: RFP for mixed use

That site has been pitched for a convention center hotel for 30 years. Was a Hilton proposal in the early nineties. I thought this was going to be a parking structure to replace some of the spaces under Barney Allis, what happened with that?

Re: Capping the Loop

Guess you have not been to the KC Museum/ Corinthian Hall. It is mostly a museum of the house itself. None of the old exhibits/artifacts/immersive history rooms made it into the museum. General KC regional history is shunted to a small area of a few thousand sq ft that is mostly printed narrative ti...

Re: Capping the Loop

I'd prefer a new history museum in the Star press building. We need a history museum badly and kids need it even more so they will not grow up ignorant of what the narrative of this place is. Currently there is no major museum in the loop area. It would bring people in all around the year not just 6...

If Cordish were to build residential on the south side they would block their own valuable views south from Two and Three. Would they build lower or turn the buildings perpendicular?

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

Arrowhead is an amphitheater. By amphitheater I assume you mean an open air theater such as Starlight but even larger seating capacity? Could the K be recycled for this by removing the upper deck ? Just trying to be a little more carbon neutral.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Too bad they ran those power lines down Troost when it was at its ebb. I would not choose to live under them. Would have to wear a rubber swim cap and rubber soled shoes which would make it difficult to wear a tin foil anti alien abduction cap.

Will make for a nice link corridor between Main and Broadway. The parklet will be a good place to view the TWA rocket The high end housing on 17th would be a good fit with the 5 star hotel that may or may not ever happen

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing

The Lathrop building had already been renovated into very nice office space in the early eighties. While lots of other properties could be called "blighted" due to lack of upkeep, the Lathrop was surely not one of them.

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

Any new roof system should incorporate the same curve as the distinctive accidental "swooshes" that are on the upper of the ends of the bowl. They are as distinctive as that other curved object on the other side of the state.

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing

That's a good question. I don't know how much of the junction was still there when the post WWII urban renewal began in that area. The hotel there probably had become run down and not the carriage trade. Hard to blame any Kemper back then not wanting the area cleaned up by clearing it. If they had p...

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing

Chris, posters are critical of the Kemper family (Commerce and UMB ) for all the acres of surface lots idling in the north loop. But some forget that they have at least kept most bank operations DT. Commerce at least put up the only skyscraper built DT in the sixties and the first large office tower...

Can't wait to see DT on red friday night. With the skyline and Union Station illuminated in red will be cool with the Maya exhibit there. Mayan pyramids were painted in red.

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

Saw some things on how Montreal fixed its 1976 Olympic Stadium. Taking a dated structure and making it work for now. It originally was to have a movable fabric roof lifted by cables attached to a 400 foot tower cantilevered over the structure. The tower was not finished at the time of the Olympics. ...

Worse than a strip mall, this is a bunch of freestanding buildings in a sea of asphalt parking. I do not see any retention ponds for all the rain run off.

The obvious thing about skateboarding is that it is destructive of the built environment. LM has spent a lot of money over the years repairing damage.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

So sad the devolution. When I lived on 46th Terrace in 1989 I was half a block from Macys and an independent drug store. 2 skinny blocks from a small grocer and also a Cinnamon roll shop. And some cheaper dining options in what was Seville Square.
