Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
Anyone know how this auction went? Did the units hold their value fairly well or go at bargain basement prices? Of course, since they weren't finished, their list prices aren't a very good basis for comparison I suppose, but would be interested to know how steep the discount was. I suppose it's ...

Re: Livestrong Sporting Park
the higher you go with the camera the more you get a sense of the spacing between players. For most MLS games being played in these smaller stadiums the camera is pretty low (thus foreshortening the apparent distance between people). I'm guessing the pitch is wider by a couple of yards, but what y...

Re: 2011 Sporting Kansas City
Well, the stadium looks beautiful.
I think tonight's game is exactly what you get when the two teams meeting haven't gotten a win in either of their past 10 games. Cringe-worthy.
All the same, the stadium looks great. I would have preferred the camera be higher, but oh well.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
David Matheny is a local filmmaker whom i've been keeping tabs on since I came across his low budget movie ("My Stepdad's a Freakin Vampire") at the Glenwood Arts (i think it played for a week or two). It was pretty impressive considering he basically did for little to no money and with t...

Re: Why don't we have an arts festival?
I'm liking this idea. It might be cool to maybe take it further, where it's not necessarily just about art (specifically, gallery type art), but a sort of harvest celebration of locally grown food, beer, and wine; local art and artists; local chefs; local film and music and theater... like two stra...

Re: NE Side
I don't spend enough time in the NE to know if there is an isolationist tendency amongst the Somali Muslim community (whom i assume is who we're talking about). But my guess would be that the mosques they attend are attended by Muslims of many nationalities (and backgrounds), and that their kids ar...

i wouldn't worry about that. It's incredibly difficult for subsequent generations to not integrate to some extent or another. The only places where you get isolated and segregated populations are due to abnormal conditions (i.e the general population is purposefully isolating a given group, or phys...

it's solid. I've ordered it several times and it's been consistently good. I think the first time i had it i was just surprised... i didn't expect it to be as good as it was, and with my expectations adjusted on subsequent visits i can say it's a solid burger. I think the key is how unexpectedly ...

Not nearly on the same level, but there was an article in the Star last week about how JoCo social services are stretched to the limit because of an unprecedented number of low income families in the area now. According to the Sun (the JOCO local paper) it's second only to Sedgwick county in the st...

yeh, I was around when the Botanical Garden decided to basically tear down McRee Town (the neighborhood immediately north of Shaw) as an incredibly ham fisted and messed up way of dealing with the issues there. Pretty messed up, pretty sad. (here are some pics during demolition) http://www.builtstl...

i believe we have a new neighborhood in Kansas City, you might not believe the hype about it, it has a thread over in Urban Core.
Honestly, if there were a neighborhood with that name, i'd move there, like ... yesterday.

it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to have an actual location. "Fountainhead Brewing Company became officially recognized the summer of 2009. From the beginning, the founders/brewers, Andy Robinson and Michael Ojo, have been steadily creating new and classic beers with the hope...
