Re: COVID19

Map of reported COVID cases in New York City by zip code. The interesting aspect of this is that the most dense parts of NYC (Manhattan) don't have the highest reports of COVID infection. At least so far. https://untappedcities.com/2020/04/02/interactive-map-of-the-coronavirus-cases-in-nyc-by-zip-c...

Re: COVID19

Kansas City is now estimated to be at around 503,000. STL is in the high 290,000's but could go lower considering most of the 25-30,000 attending school there will not be counted this cycle. It wouldn’t be surprising to me to see St. Louis hit 285,000 or so during this census because of this. I nev...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I read that Punch Bowl Social (the entire chain) is in dire straits due to the corona virus. The article states there are concerns regarding the viability of a concept anyway. Did the plaza version of the chain ever get opened? https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/financing/cracker-barrel-opts-n...

Re: COVID19

I am curious if KCraggers think Corona Virus will cause a pause or reversal in the trend among people (particularly young people and retirees) who were choosing to live a more dense urban lifestyle and embrace viable public transportation systems. It's clear that the US epicenters are denser areas l...

Re: COVID19

I have read that they have probably overestimated the amount of deaths attributed to corona virus as hospitals were attributing all deaths in certain time periods to the disease without knowing if those that passed even had the virus. Where did you read this, exactly? What I found from googling is ...

Re: COVID19

I am suspect of all data we get via various tracking websites etc... Even death data. Deaths might be accurate in the US during the early stages of the pandemic here but in Italy, I have read that they have probably overestimated the amount of deaths attributed to corona virus as hospitals were att...

Re: COVID19

And MO is behind with testing so not a good sign. Deaths climbing too, now within top 20 states. Yet MO had earlier jump with restrictions than most of US. Agree deaths a better tracker but this claims MO is one of lowest in testing yet relatively high growth in known cases... https://covidtracking...

Re: COVID19

Surely there's a limit to how long this can go on before someone in some position of power decides it's time to stop reacting and start planning. Absolutely. Your post reminds me of this scene from LOTR. Not sure our current leadership is competent enough to do so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b...

Re: COVID19

NY has more cases because they have started testing. NY cases have grown steadily in the past few days. I suspect this is a result of testing rather than the disease spreading faster there than elsewhere. What's interesting is the mortality rate has dropped in NY to 0.5% which is much lower than Wa...

Re: Politics

Maybe this is his way of saying he doesn't want to be president anymore. He is really only good at his Rally's where he can talk like a teenager. When he is serious he almost seems uncomfortable I can see that. He loved to bask in the republican praise for the economy but he's definitely not a lead...

With all the working from home and social distancing edicts, is construction continuing on KC projects or have (will) the sites close down?

Colorado is breaking out with 72 known cases. Wichita has one (cruise travel related). Of course unknown carriers are likely 3X higher, some estimates are 7X higher nationally. Re: COVID19

The term "flu" has become synonymous with seasonal illness, but it comes from the distinct Influenza family of viruses, which is separate and distinct from the Corona family of viruses. Influenza is widely known because of the 1918 pandemic commonly called the Spanish Flu. But you are correct in th...

Re: As sea levels rise...

I wonder why Kansas City doesn't appear to be receiving as many new residents as rural places in N. Missouri and Western Kansas. W. Kansas is having water issues now. I can't believe that those regions would be able to support more residents -- especially since most information I've seen is that W....

Tower crane going up today . When was the last non p&l tower crane in the loop? I suspect this crane will still be up when the Waddell Reed crane goes up? Is there a chance a 3rd or 4th crane could be up simultaneously (e.g., 3 light or one of the other proposed projects)? It would be great to see ...

Quite a few of those new houses on 45th St are not selling and have been on the market for a long time.
I toured the model recently. Really liked it. These will sell.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

The large acreage of the zoo is a blessing and course. I like that it is spread out and allows for walking, and I'd love to see more exhibits in the open spaces. Yes it is a bummer to walk around to see things, and maybe a lack of say a big central exhibit area for families who just want to do one ...

It looks like a prison. At least the front is of significance Comparing it to the google maps aerial photo, it looks like they have severely shortened the depth of the building. I was actually a little relieved to the see the lot to the immediate east was already a parking lot. I hope when they get...

Sounds like a good idea but it’s a horrible idea. Our mayor and council cower at the political power of the public safety unions. Local control would only make things worse.
Doesn't state control date back to the Pendergast era when KC's police department was corrupt? Seems archaic.

Re: Westport

the Opus project will transform a very highly visible corner of Westport, and spur development opportunities East of Broadway. Look at HopCat across the street. It blends in well with the other buildings as you get more into the "heart" of the entertainment district. I think you will see a nice new...
