Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The total money picture probably looks better There's downtown residents that it could be an impluse event There's the ability for a business to all go for a weekday game and use their existing parking There's obviously more hotel rooms, and visitors could fit a game in after a day at a convention ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

But as far as whether or not a new DT stadium is an actual possibility- I’d say yes. Mainly because the new owner says as much. The last time it was a discussion I don’t think it was ever actually a possibility because the previous owner certainly didn’t care where the stadium was located, let alon...

Re: What Makes a Good Rooftop Sign?

I favor subtlety and some attempt to conform to the building design so it doesn't look forced. I think the Bank Midwest and Stinson signs detract from the building while somehow the Commerce Bank sign works. I like the ATT symbol on an otherwise ugly building. My favorite sign, however, despite my p...

Re: Downtown tower construction boom in 2020?

Of these buildings, any idea of the 1) Level of certainty they will be built and 2) likely start dates?

Obviously, Waddell Reed and Hyatt house are essentially 100% surety with Hyatt House started and Waddell Reed about underway.

How about:

Three Light

13th and Wyandotte

Strata

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

I agree that KC needs a top notch research institution but KC isn't really that far off in that arena. UMKC is a fairly good sized school already and one that has already gone beyond its one time lowly commuter status and has really improved itself regionally as a viable university. It has a ways t...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

A lot of good ideas here For me, the #1 thing KC needs to concentrate on in the near term is to get the Street Car extension from Downtown to UMKC started and finished. That is what will distinguish KC from the burbs and act as a driver for density in the midtown area and making the primary city in ...

Re: What visitors think of Kansas City

Gentrification is a dirty word to some but KC needs this badly. The Plaza is a matter of perspective. It used to have cheap enough housing to allow service industry people working Plaza to live around Plaza. That's now less the case. But the upgrades and redevelopments are generally considered impr...

Re: What visitors think of Kansas City

I visited KC for over a week over Christmas. My first visit to KC in a year. I was very impressed by the amount of activity in the Crossroads and especially along Main. That area is being transformed. My two adult children who have never lived in KC said they loved the vibe and that KC was starting ...

Re: Downtown tower construction boom in 2020?

^^^ I think that we can get to that level of growth in the next 15-20 years if we keep up our current momentum. We have to keep focusing on growing downtown and the urban core. The big difference in Nashville is the corporate commitment. Many of the towers going up in Nashville have been major comp...

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

It's still worth it to bring this company downtown. Some will buy urban homes or younger employees will live in downtown apartments, they will spend a lot of money at restaurants and hotels entertaining and KC just needs some private corporations downtown. It's absolutely worth getting this company...

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

Seems extremely tall for an all wood structure. What's the limit on building up with wood? The building in the foreground is 5 floors. The elevator shaft behind seems even taller (could just be the perspective?).

A Grain Valley resident told me Grain Valley is getting a White Castle. But I haven't been able to confirm that anywhere.
Put Mgsports on it. You'll get your confirmation.

Re: Companies moving downtown

Little surprise that the KC Star is pissing all over the Waddel Reed incentives. An empty lot with a vacant building cannot be making that much of a contribution to the KC tax base.

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

It’s always talked about how stadiums bring restaurants and bars and increased traffic. I’m not so sure that’s the direct case. Stadiums increase transit options. Transit options increase traffic. So, a DT stadium is most exciting to me because it likely increases rail and other transit options to ...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Personally would like to see fewer corporate restaurants (including B&B Concepts (rather sterile food)) and more variety of small eats, local counter eats, obscure ethnic eats, quainter small neighborhood restaurants that could still be destination, etc. Is B&B really all that corporate? They have ...

Makes sense. So is the indentation on the west side of the Yard House block part of the plan for the construction of Strata. Is that an elevator shaft just to the west of that?

From the Star, it sounds like several restaurants are about to join this list: https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/cityscape/article237831274.html The reasons given; overbuilding of restaurants, labor shortages etc... seem to be national phenomena and not necessarily limited t...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

With Two Light, Loews, Three Light and Waddell Reed, I-670 which is already in a trench, is going to seem like it's traversing a substantial urban canyon. That's going to be an impressive part of DT KC. Also, how come every picture I've seen on the Rag of KC in the last 6 months has dismal looking g...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

Well, from a tax perspective, it's not rearranging the deck chairs. The KC metro is divided by two states, the wealthiest part of the metro is in a state that doesn't contain KC's urban/cultural core and hence contribute very little to core's well being. So any time you can entice that population t...

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

... The other question I'd pose is will this create tax revenue for the City, or another tax hole downtown? It would seem to me that the office/apartment mix would produce more revenue for the City in the long-term, and yes, we do need to be concerned about that too. 20,000 people coming downtown 8...
