Re: Roeland Park CVS remains vacant 2 years

I think the whole West side of Roe from the CVS to Price Chopper could be prime for some mild infill. The lots as they are rarely full and are absolutely falling into disrepair and there is plenty of room to infill just empty parking lot to sustain that area better. The infra in Roeland Park has got...

Re: Former Google Fiber Space on Westport Rd

They're calling it a "chipotlane" and were very clear to emphasize that it's not a drive-thru. But yes, it effectively a drive thru. I'm sure it will be filled with cars in no time. Such a lazy project. Based on the plans i saw it might as well just be a surface lot, the building itself to...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

I think Westport Rd makes a lot of sense. Both Westport rd and 39th (outside of the few blocks east of the hospital) need road-diets and westport road has a lot more space to work with. Makes center running much easier. If you stick to main or broadway until 43rd that ROW is very wide too so could h...

Re: Westport

The sad part is that Westport Rd was designed for it. The old businesses and buildings that still remain are the outcasts. Our forebears thought that traffic flow was the end all be all and changed the design of westport and trafficway for it. That corners on the South side (Westport Rd and State Li...

Re: Westport

I was privvy to some of the discussions surrounding this as part of one of the adjacent neighborhoods. There was a meeting held with city staff to improve the development ever so slightly. Neighborhoods raised concerns and hopefully will follow up with public works about improving mobility along wes...

Re: Westport

That sounds rough and I would definitely be frustrated in that situation. If you care enough and have the time I'm sure Midtown KC Now would care to hear your concerns. Filing 311 reports also may get some of the issues you see taken care of. Not that I want to stand around using the app next to som...

Re: Bluhawk

I can't believe this project is using STAR bonds. It's literally like the 90's. I've been surprised that KC didn't already have a Sierra but now that it's coming, I think I would prefer us not have one rather than have it here. If I shop there it'll continue to be online. Developers have caught on t...

Re: Bike Lanes

Rebrand on city website to "Personal Mobility Lanes" https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/departments/public-works/bike-kc-building-a-bicycle-friendly-community Page definitely still a work in progress. So don't think this link is accessible from the page above however, it is on the site navigat...

Re: Westport

Live in the area went here 1 time in the time that it was open. It was prime brunch time on a weekend and pretty sure we were the only two people in. I'm honestly surprised it made it as long as it did. However it literally had no external markings indicating that it was a business. Pretty sure I ha...

Re: Bike Lanes

Well sticking to the specific issue of Brookside first (though we are no longer in that thread), if frequent crashes are an issue at 51st St, I would have to say that mitigating that trumps any concerns about knock-on effects for businesses, especially businesses in farther away neighborhoods where...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I know we've all shit on Taubman either outspoken or in our heads but if they fail to get behind a proposal to pedestrianize even a portion of Nichols then they're effectively a lost cause (which many have thought for a long time). The best thing the plaza in my opinion has going for it is it's &quo...

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)

17 years and 34 million in incentives. Seems like a large amount for a project that did not promise affordable units or bringing anything new to downtown. I also feel like that this received almost no scrutiny vs the potential KCATA incentives for the project in waldo. I'm definitely for there bein...

Re: Bike Lanes

I have a feeling most of these streets were widened with little to no public engagement. Or that "congestion" dictated that it needed to widen. In an ideal world "safety" would be swapped for congestion and should just be blanket approval to shrink them back to a reasonable numbe...

Looks like Year 2 Implementation and 5 year plan in front of council today, not really sure if it's being voted on or not. However, I believe this is the first we've heard of year 2 actually going in front of city leaders. https://kansascity.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=6289211&GUID=D0...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

When my eyes were opened about stroads it was upsetting to see how many there are in KC.

Not that it's not a problem everywhere in North America but it they're everywhere in Midtown. Broadway, main, 43rd, Troost. I know I'm missing some.

100% behind dedicated lanes.

Re: Bike Lanes

What happened to Paseo? Moved over to Forest? Paseo as it is now is certainly popular with recreational bikers. Looks like paseo is still on 5 year plan. I don't see anything on the map that would suggest they're doing anything with forest. Looks like you might be misplacing the ones on the 5 yr on...

Re: Bike Lanes

First post, long time lurker. Finally decided to create an account since I actually had just asked about this. I've been working with PW on a project in my neighborhood and have asked about year 2. I have been told that it is still planned for this year, and that the official plan should be coming o...
