Re: NYC Migrants Are Being Welcomed by Kansas City’s Mayor to Fill Jobs
^ First, the unemployment rate is around 4%. In a metro area like Kansas City that means 80,000 people in our area looking for a job that can’t find one. Second, the unemployment rate methodology is bogus. They’ve changed it to make it lower. Actually, only close to 67% of the available workforce i...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
You can thank the mayor for the state treating us like their red headed step child KC has received short shrift from Missouri for a long time and over the tenures of many mayors. St Louis has the advantage (at least St Louis County) of being the locus of the metro's wealth where several large corpo...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
A group of people moving into and taking over a neighborhood, but blocking anyone else from doing so is just how gentrification and nimbyism usually works.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Some people see them as weirdos in funny hats, and other people see them as relatable and the only organization in the city looking out for them. So they do have influence. And Sherman is aware of them because Tara with KCT did an interview with Carrington Harrison from 610 Sports and said they were...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I don't trust billionaires, and I trust Sherman even less after his wife's facebook posts.... But, I think the election failing could end up being for the best. 1) I always thought a downtown stadium should be owned by the city, not the county. No reason to give people in Blue Springs and Lees Summ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
The reality is that KC Tenants will/would have come out against every possible proposal the Royals put on the table. The details are irrelevant, whether East Village, East Crossroads, saving the K, whatever. The issue is tax money going to a team owned by a billionaire, that doesn't change no matte...

KCTenants absolutely has a good amount of power in this city. Especially with young black and progressive voters, which is a large part of the voters in Jackson Co.

Do the “better plan” people actually think the Royals are going to come back and ask again after this?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Interested to see how going from very traditionally shaped Kauffman to one of the leagues smallest stadiums that will also now probably be very asymmetrical goes over with older /suburban/traditionalist type voters.

The constitutionality of it wouldn’t depend on whether or not the city is good at it though.

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
Some of these projects are actively being worked on now with completion dates this year. Others on that list are in flight with plans to be announced soon. Some of the others on the list have been doing serious behind the scenes work and we’ll probably hear more concrete plans announced in the next...

Re: Politics
There’s a reason people use the words they use. Everyone can read the definition of a word but I hope you can see there’s a reason he made that choice. It’s very easy politically for him in Missouri to brush it off as just a bunch of “thugs” acting how they act in inner city KC and STL to do nothing...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
If this vote fails and the teams just stay, wouldn’t the teams need a new tax regardless for renovations at some point? So is the question do we want to keep paying for something new, or keep paying for the same thing we’ve had at TSC?

Re: Politics
“Thug” is absolutely a racist dog whistle. Anyone being honest knows what they see and think of when they hear that term. The governor knows his audience and who he tries to appeal to.

The US has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. The idea that all of this is solved by prison is lazy at best.

My grandparents were at 62nd and Wabash when the city leveled this neighborhood ~20 years ago. Nice to see something finally happening here.

I play on those courts throughout the spring/summer a couple times a week and there’s no way a college team could play on those courts with all the cracks in them.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
This doesn’t seem all that newsworthy. Certain demos have been afraid of cities and fleeing to the suburbs for decades. What demo is afraid of cities? I think fleeing to the burbs is a natural American progression of life as you start a family and no longer find a downtown urban setting conducive t...

They absolutely should focus on the people that are actively being displaced. Why would they not focus on their own members’ communities?
