Re: Economy

interesting to see for sure. Plus I'll be interested to see what the narrative is once Covid is fully behind us, we have good treatment & a vaccine, and we look at the impacts of a larger remote workforce. Right now everyone is happy and leadership in these companies have been pleasantly surprised t...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I know where Harlem is, and it's still pretty much "low rent", industrial. Plus I'm not sure if it is part of NKC or not or where the lines are. I will however say there could be an opportunity for NKC to look at improving the West side of Burlington. Mostly Industrial buildings. warehouses and rail...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

well the news that the street car line from river market into the river front is being reduced won't make this debate of parking any better. Leaves open Eastern expansion. They are doing it to obtain federal funding. I get it but it's too bad. Unless they are on the short list to get funding they ma...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I think having a Plan B makes sense. Companies will look at ways for some people to work at home based on job function and role. Plus may be easier to hit ADA hiring or providing providing opportunities for those who rely exclusively on public transit or transportation services. By allowing for WFH ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I was made to work from home starting in late March. My company dealt with upgrade pains for a few weeks but got it dialed in to having roughly 80-90% of a 4000 strong workforce work from home. Overall things have gone smoothly & I can work effectively from home. However distractions are higher & I ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt House (900 Broadway)

Was expecting delays but hopefully not killed. Wouldn't be surprising if they switch to residential. Looks like the developer did Depot Square apts in Boulder as well. Maybe a little less business travel but not that much off. People will adjust to the new normal. Downtown hotel occupancy wasn't al...

I haven’t seen any activity at the construction site for several days. Does anyone have an update?
Might be paused due to Corona.
Perhaps some kind of permit/inspection delay, Covid related ?

Weird, must be something going on. I enjoyed staying at the Muelbach after they redid rooms under the Marriott flag. Maybe it will go apartment figuring it can’t compete with 3 big hotels all within a few blocks, Lowe’s, Marriott, Crowne Plaza

Re: Hospital Hill activity

CMH is putting their non-research tower construction on hold. Makes sense to pause it, as that build is not tied to grant dollars, donations, etc. Non-research tower I believe is related to expanded patient facilities and such. Can't get that going until the revenue faucets start running again. I'm...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

Thanks for the clarification normalthings. Seems odd to only list her as a grad student if she has (substantial) real world experience. I think they are wanting to emphasize that she is getting a Masters in URBAN DEVELOPMENT. USC is a good school and maybe one of the better programs in the country?...

This is a total shame, and basically a panic reaction by Copaken. It’s a total missed opportunity. The only positives are 1) at least it won’t be a parking lot, & 2) nice to see a need for more office space as more companies look to be downtown Otherwise let’s call the design what it is; terribly d...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Blanc burger is great example. On Baldwin, from what I've read over the years it appears that got caught up in branding and wanting to be a Hollywood exclusive type thing. Nothing wrong with any of that, but I think they moved a little to quick and really tried to be a part of something maybe too fa...

Re: COVID-19 Casualties

restaurants are just about the riskiest small businesses. So many fail and for multiple reasons. They are extremely hard work and for most with very little pay off. You do it because you love it, and sometimes you get lucky. I don't see the industry just going away, especially for local places and s...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

interesting. I think the movie theaters still are viable, and serve as a great source of entertainment. The ones that cater to adults, with drinks and food are nice. People will still want to leave their homes to watch a movie and get that experience that sometimes only a theater can provide. This i...
