Re: Next Mayor 2019

From what I know this city manager has no interest in becoming permanent. That said, I also thought someone else was going to be the interim so what do I know.

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

Can someone help me understand what this means for future service expansion (either in geography or frequency)? I am certainly on board (ha) with the concept, just a little concerned about the speed with which this happened and what it all means. My suspicion is that fares make up such an insignific...

Looking forward to a rendering of this project. At the moment I feel strangely unmoved when I feel like I should be very excited for downtown office development.

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

So the existing unused space to install a grand lobbey isn't enough? No, the unused section would just be large enough for possible up and down escalators to 2nd floor space, elevators and a guard desk. Even taking the Garment District wouldn’t make enough space for a lobby half as large as H&R Blo...

You are also assuming that the IBM Building couldn't be renovated for a smaller firm, and have a new structure wrapped around it on the remaining block which wouldn't have to be a tower.
Which, perhaps that's what is going to happen....

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

user I certainly think the currently empty space could be leased by Strata but obviously Yard House isn't going anywhere. The Garment District isn't going anywhere unless the offer is just too good to turn down. Cordish is getting hundreds of younger, well paid employees who will need a place to li...

Re: Companies moving downtown

The redevelopment of this block is crucial to assure continuity between the new hotel and P&L district. If you were alone, at 11PM; would you consider walking down Baltimore Avenue from P&L to the hotel? The fact the IBM building is abandoned -- with a crappy streetscape? Put a belgian in the boile...

At the airport this morning. Ghost town. Apparently they are saving their pennies on maintenance. Place looks like shit and the escalator to the food court is still broken. How many months now?
spring 2023
No. How long has that escalator been broken? 6 months?

This may have been mentioned a few pages back but Starbucks and Burnt End BBQ are taking over the Milano space. There is a nice sandwich board sign out front advertising the same.

It's amazing to me that Truman Road (facing a freeway trench) will eventually be lined with new buildings from Wyandotte to Oak, and we can't get entire blocks along Grand redeveloped. I hope this might change as the Embassy Suites in the old Fed comes online along with the Wyndham at the Scarritt....

Re: Companies moving downtown

Two big things I'm looking to understand in this project: 1. How will it interact with the street particularly because it will have faces on 3 sides. 1a. Are parking entrances minimized both in number and size? 1b. Is any ground floor retail included? 2. How will parking be accessed? 2a. What impact...

A good project and exactly what Waldo (and just about every other neighborhood in this city) needs.

Maybe just do what Portland is doing? Surely we can spend $1,000 on some bike racks. I'd pay $1,000 for the symbolic value alone.
Overland Park recently spend $9270 for 37 racks. So it's a minimum of about $250 per.

$1000 would get you 2-3 racks.
Thank you. Let's call it $10,000.

Food review is expensive to do right. You have to spend money buying meals multiple times to get a fair view. It could be $100+ per review. Independent of him, the market has traditionally been pay to play because restaurants won't advertise if they get bad reviews and people are wary of a good rev...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

Some fliers could arrive by bike. Not necessarily even by bike. They could ride their bike to the bus and use that to get to the airport. Really doubtful. I’ve never seen anyone riding a bike with a suitcase on their back. Bike racks would likely never be used. I flew last weekend with only a backp...
