Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
The only more pretentious name for a neighborhood than the Crossroads Arts District is the Crossroads East. I hope the new Royals ballpark will redesignate downtown as everywhere between the river and 31st street.

Re: West Bottoms Redevelopment
Nashville has a bunch of pockets of development that are only just now starting to run into each other. Our goal should always be growing the size of the pie. KC can support development in multiple urban neighborhoods at once! I agree but the city should prioritize developing the vacant land betwee...

Re: West Bottoms Redevelopment
Development in the West Bottoms, along with Berkley Park, will help finally return KC to a river city. Also, the connection to KCK's Strawberry Hill, new Kaw River levees, and the Rock Island Bridge conversion will help connect the two cities along the two rivers. The empty lots between the River M...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee
I was thinking about this topic and wanted to revisit it. My question about this area is the block directly west. In New York they've always referred to low rise buildings on prime real estate as "taxpayers", built to collect rent and pay taxes until the BIG project comes along. Did Copake...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee
Tragic?! The ugliest building in the history of the planet would be a vast improvement over this tragic empty lot. There was literally one there before it became an empty lot. Never my favorite building but absolutely stupid to tear it down. The structure could have been added onto horizontally tak...

Re: UMKC projects
I think it is interesting that UMKC planned to move two different departments downtown, along with playing basketball at Municipal Auditorium, before the streetcar. I'm surprised there is not renewed interest now that the streetcar is heading it's way.

Re: UMKC projects
Now that the streetcar is being built to their front door, I wonder if UMKC has reconsidered building the conservatory south of the Kauffman. The site sits vacant and they haven't built it on their campus yet. Is it true that UMKC at one time wanted to put their school of law in the old Federal Cour...

Re: Peck's Plaza at 1044 Main (former Missouri Bank & Trust)
Peck’s department store went from Main to Baltimore. It would be nice to see a five story addition at the 11th and Baltimore site, that could turn that intersection into one of the city’s best, and also cover up one the city’s ugliest blank walls. The west elevation shows where the doorways between ...

Re: West Bottoms Redevelopment
I walked up to the roof of the Weld Wheel building a couple of years ago and was surprised by how solid it was from the inside. I don't understand the need to tear it down - it can't just be the broken glass and graffiti.

Neo-Rockefeller Center between two of our art deco gems replacing one our ugliest surface lots. Good luck!

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
And I don't see how the merchants can be blamed for wanting to hang onto the parking spaces. They believe, for good reason, that they can't survive with only streetcar and pedestrian traffic. There was a plan on the table to completely eliminate all parking in RM so that local merchants would have ...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
I’m confused, is the enemy of this almost perfect development, the KC Tenants or the local merchants? Yes. So the KC Tenants are at fault, for not blocking the merchants, from having parking spaces replace the affordable housing units? Nobody here seems to be in favor of affordable units in new hig...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
Blaming the local merchants for the failures of this development has nothing to do with affordable housing.TheUrbanRoo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:08 pm Can we move this convo over to the Affordable housing thread and get this back to 5th & Main. Pls.

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
Fang, I appreciate all the information. The question I now have is why the East Village stalled after just one apartment building? What got built was low rise and wood framed, but instead of getting neighbors, it will probably be torn down for the ballpark. I guess it concerns me that affordable hou...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
One must recognize that placing affordable housing in the most expensive type of new building -- a highrise with mandated structured parking -- is the worst way possible to create affordable housing units. With all due respect, why is it the worst way? I hope it's not just because the haves don't w...
