Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Yes, east village is a retarded name, especially for an area that is nothing but a few buildings and parking lots. lol But my question is this. Is this stadium thing even a real topic? Every single thing I see online on any social media or local media (kc star, tv news etc) to just bombarded with c...

Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

As it is now, Burns & Mac are planning to add substantial landscaping (~20ft deep from sidewalk to building!) to conceal the blank wall. Any landscaping that can conceal an entire wall can also conceal a person who wants to ambush me and mug me. These people sound dangerously out of their depths on...

Re: Four Light

Hoping we don't stick with just Loews products for this. If they are involved, it would likely be a "Live by Lowes" or a "Live Lofts by Lowes". Setup as a more long term stay hotel. I also don't see any reason why Cordish wouldn't handle this one on their own. However, having a name attached is a n...

Re: Four Light

Since the rendering that was done yeas ago featuring the “W” logo, things have changed. Cordish now has a working relationship with Loews and could partner with them on a different style of hotel so it wouldn’t directly compete with the new convention center hotel. Also, Cordish has started doing th...

Oh... and by the way it was packed today yet people got in and out quickly. I didn't go but heard several people who loved it and were impressed with the speed of service.

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

I don’t feel the need to reward incompetent businesses just for existing. Apparently the franchisees were also blaming the Andrews McMeel construction as an additional reason for why it took them so long to open. That was part of the delay and who cares... they were paying rent the entire ti...

Re: Three Light

They would love to have the garage underground but it will come down to the numbers like usual. The less floors above ground that are dedicated to parking, the more revenue potential. According to my source, the parking garage is still being discussed but a decision will be made next week.

Re: Minimum Wage (Split from New Convention Hotel)

Tipping couples performance to compensation directly in the context of table or bar service. Remove tipping; the dining patron will likely receive standard service. You don't fire your servers if the kitchen or bar can't get their act together but your tip probably goes mainly to the server. Tippin...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I don’t think liking 95% of a building and disliking 5% is mediocrity. Some people who have never had a single thing to do with a building project obviously have a different set (and often unrealistic) set of standards. Development is all about compromise. I don’t think any of us like the process wh...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

If you think this is all about feeling happy while walking by buildings this discussion isn't worth having. Successful cities don't build buildings like these. That isn't a coincidence. Than why has it been mentioned several times about the experience as you “walk by daily”? I’m not saying this con...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

It’s slightly pretentious that some people want the ground level of certain buildings to be a great looking situation just so they feel happy as they walk by. I get it, but it’s such a thin argument. If we want these buildings to be successful and full, function is key. Also, that whole thing about ...

Urban perfection! Crossroads love! /s So, Dave, what would have done? Maybe add glass like, I dunno, the other three corners ? Come on, even the lone set of doors is 100% solid and beige. I’m guessing the other three sides are functioning front of house space. Not sure why anyone would want to see ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Must everything require ground level retail? I think any of us that have design responsibilities get to the point in the design phase where you can't please everyone and you need to consider what you're going to be dealing with 99% of the time. The loading docks for example, they need to be a on str...

Anyone else see the article today where a former W&R executive wrote a letter to members of city council bashing W&R?
Link please?
I can't get past the Stars paywall, but the article headline is, "Former Waddell and Reed exec warns Kansas City against incentives to move firm downtown".

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

There isn't much site prep right? Why the delay? They still have to design the thing. It will also take time to negotiate with Cordish to manage garage construction as well as form a plan with the tenants in the base building. The good news is Cordish has a head start as they had explored some othe...

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

I imagine most W&R employees reside in JOCO and would rather stay there. It appears management must be promising easy free parking for every employee. Even better than now since it will be covered. These parking podiums may be the onerous price to be paid to get suburban employers to move downtown....
