Re: Electrophonic Foundation reunion, Sunday 1/11

I hope to make it.  Should be an awesome show, and the cause is certainly worthy.

What time?

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

I was there last Friday for an hour or so.  It was kind of busy; with four (shitty) local hard-rock bands playing.  They seemed to have a good counter-culture vibe going with hippie types playing on the sidewalk out front and some punk-rockers and a lot of Converses around.  Left for the Zoo around...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

Ummm... you sure they're open?  I jusst tried to drop by and the shutters were closed.  This was at 10:15pm.  Not looking good. :(  :(  :( I'm so sorry. I should have mentioned they were taking a few days off for the holiday.  There was a small sign on the door when we left yesterday. Hmm... They w...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

Definitely open, but generally not until 5pm, and closed Sunday and Monday unless there is a special engagement.  Food almost completely curtailed. Pizza slices, tacos maybe... maybe... They have started calling it the Studio Music Venue to reflect the change. But they are hanging in there. I heard ...

Re: 1970s Troost/Brush Creek area

The old streetcar system had its main storage facility in that area on the land presently occupied by the Discovery Center. ("Then and Now 3" has a picture of this facility on page 116.) Is this the trolley depot you're talking about? Call me short sighted, but "Then and Now 3" ...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

I still hate the name... I dont think it has anything to do with the idea or what there actually trying to do..I would start there...and hopefully everything else will follow.. The name is actually quite relevant. They have just neglected to emphasize the history, context, and significance of the f...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

I've never been to Studio so my thoughts could be useless or they could give an unbiased outside opinion.  I envisioned this place as more of an upscale, take my wife out for fine dining and fancy drinks kind of place.  But then the name of the place doesn't really emply that.  It says, casual hang...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

i think studio has (had?) a lot of potential, but it has violated at least three cardinal sins of kansas city nightlife, often simultaneously: * cover charges, even with there isn't really anything going on (including charging people a cover to pick up their to-go orders?!) * expensive drinks * try...

Re: Main Street MAX

It's right there under the "maps and schedules" dropdown at the top of the page.  Also has Wyco bus.  Do you want the ATA to duplicate The JO's maps and schedules on its own web site?  Good luck.  They can't even get the JO to provide that information for a regional trip planner. I'm sorr...

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

Maybe premature, maybe too late, probably not my prerogative to discuss... but anyway! I respect the opinions on this forum, because there is genuine affection and low tolerance for bullshit regarding what makes Kansas City unique. As with any new establishment, it takes a while to recoup renovatio...

1970s Troost/Brush Creek area

When I was a kid living at 47th and Harrison, I roamed around a lot, as kids then were allowed to do. There was the big abandoned trolley depot? just up the street.  There were mounds and mountains of shale behind it, great for climbing and exploring and hiding. This landscape abutted brush creek.  ...

Re: Bus stops in the p&L

When waiting at 11th and Grand, I will usually opt to take a Plaza only Max rather than wait for the Waldo one. I would rather wait among the tulips and fountains, especially with my kids.

Re: KC now in Google Transit

Because The JO has not yet chosen to participate.  And I'd argue it's much easier than the ATA planner. Of course it's better.  I love google.  If I could, I'd have sex with google! While quicker and easier access to information I use regularly is always great, access to information I do not...

Re: KC now in Google Transit

It's a little quicker and easier than KCATA.org trip planner, but it also does not include the JO, so it doesn't offer any new information.

Re: Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

Last night was the first time that I have heard a good band play there.  I didn't catch their name but it was the 2nd of the two Reggae bands.  I can't defend the hit or miss food, and I think a center bar would have been a better layout, but you obviously haven't been on a night that Meanie played...

I think it was some sort of poll, so in theory, it was Kansas Citians who responded. They are (mostly) all great buildings.  I think it would be neat to (google) plot a driving or walking tour of them.
