Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I think you’re referring to the lion area. It was just in the media last week that the lion and giraffe areas are the next “remodeling projects”. The kopje area around the lions was not ADA compliant and only has a porta potty restroom setup. The lion and caracal viewing areas will be expanded and t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I was originally an EV fan & still feel it’s going to need some serious attention to better tie downtown to Paseo West and the Northeast. Having said that I like the EC alignment with T Mobile and the core of downtown activity (KC Streetcar spine). I know the Buck O’Neil bridge trusses (3) are b...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
I don’t think Jamaica has “fallen off” the list of desired vacations. I’ve been about 8 times from the 80s to the late 00s. There are issues with crime, etc. much like many other Caribbean or Mexico beach destinations but there are lots of flights from many US and international cities. The designati...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Forgot to add that I too wish JOCO residents could get an opportunity to vote for KC Zoo/ Deanna Rose support. I’d be on board. I know Platte County residents did vote for the tax at the same time Jackson & Clay Counties did but their county commissioners wouldn’t implement the tax. Could they s...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
The sea lion pool is in the midst of a major renovation and should be finished in the fall. It involves making it ADA compliant, expanded seating and most importantly an expansion of the indoor holding area. I had the opportunity to see the behind the scenes area and it reflected the era in which it...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I agree with the need to rep our own local ecology- that would be North America and it would fit nicely between the elephant and Australian areas, east of the red barn, sting rays and penguin habitats. Or it could flow from the North American otters, polar bear and sea lion areas north and west up t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
You’re probably talking about the 11 Oak tower (please restore!), the ugly AT&T Longlines building and the finally being replaced jail.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
You’re right on all of the plans you cited and the desire to move the African forest. I wonder if that isn’t still planned since the walkways in most areas have been replaced and improved while the forest area is in bad shape. They also closed the refreshments area at the forest entry area long ago....

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Lots of excitement at the zoo for the aquarium to open. This is a major enhancement of the zoo and really helps to tie Africa and “topside” together at the elephant habitat. I do wish one of the old bear pits could have been saved as an educational aspect of zoological history. Recently visited the ...

Re: Washington Sq Park between Crown Center/Union Station
I commend your suggestion to rejoin the east sides of Swope Park but the last thing that should be reduced in size is the chimpanzee habitat. You’ll notice I called it a habitat and not an exhibit. The KC Zoo chimpanzee habitat has been praised by the likes of Jane Goodall and most other zoological ...

As I understand from the Union Station media release those businesses will be compensated and will be involved in providing services to the Draft participants.

Oh, and I forgot to add- can we please change this thread name from “Fixing the KC Zoo? Maybe something like “Moving the KC Zoo Forward”?

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Right on Grid! The zoo (I have a close connection) was in desperate straits until the FOTZ was given management responsibility. The passage of the sales tax for Jackson & Clay counties also helped immensely. The “Journey” always scared my kids and not because of the content (the creepy voice and...

Re: Capping the Loop
Article in KCBJ this afternoon mentions that both the environmental study and pre-requisites are about finished. The public forums are to get public input on perceived/desired amenities, etc. that might be incorporated into the final plan. Sounds like it will possibly break ground in 2024.

Thanks Last Gentleman. Great pictures of the evolving skyline of years past in KCMO- will be interesting to see how much it changes in the next decade, let alone several decades into the future (though I most likely won’t see it 50 years from now….).

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)
This proposal is a great addition to very decrepit corner. The P & L tower view is preserved from every direction, the ugly blank west facade is covered up and it increases both hotel and residential density in a very important area of the downtown core. As noted, this corner has seen numerous p...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
My last flight out from the dumpster terminal is Sunday, then flying back into the new terminal on Mar 4th! Will be like landing in a new city (though I cheated & went to the open house preview). There will be information booths manned by actual humans so people looking for their respective grou...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
For all of the negative nellies on here I’d just say what my dad would say “you’d bitch if they hung you with a new rope” Haha! In reality, none of us know what the new terminal will be like until it’s fully functioning. I suspect some of the larger events like the NFL Draft will be telling, since i...

From the news sources I’ve seen the event will include food, Fan Fest type activities and music acts, besides all of the actual draft activities that can be watched. The music entertainment & try your luck type activities, as well as admission, are free. Hotel rates along the streetcar, downtown...

Re: General Amtrak Discussion
Actually this wreck is on the River Runner route from KC to St. Louis. The other fatal injury was on the Super Chief, which runs from KC to Chicago. Both, however are in Missouri so maybe the state of Missouri might need to update the rail crossings in the state.
