Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

The new airport terminal won’t be completed for several years and the article implies that the transit system is projected for several years after that. We should know by the end of this year just how effective the vaccination effort against COVID will be. Once we get back to “normal” and hopefully ...

Re: Politics

I’m really not sure how she derived the percentages but I do know from what we (wife and I) are hearing from our friends, relatives and social media that there are certainly a large number of Trumpites that are praising the actions of yesterday-sad. I’m hoping they are merely praising the legal prot...

Re: Politics

For those of you who were offended by my use of the term “deplorables” here’s the actual transcript from TIME magazine dated September 10, 2016: Speaking at a fundraiser in New York City on Friday, Hillary Clinton said half of Donald Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” characteriz...

Re: Politics

Term limits are a hot button to rationalize a way to stop incompetent or dangerous politicians. We already have term limits-it’s called an election. Just as we value experience in the corporate world, we should also value experienced, principled career politicians. The office of the presidency wasn’...

Re: Politics

Today’s events have depleted my emotions like few others I have witnessed over my lifetime. Our American democracy was literally under attack by a group of pathetic seditious “deplorables” that don’t deserve the title of Americans. They have every right to demonstrate with their street and boat para...

Re: Politics

Steve Schmidt has taken what for him has been a very painful but heartfelt stand against what was formerly the Republican Party. He accurately analyzes the growing split in that party and takes no pleasure in it. He has been a true conservative that respects the Constitution and is sounding the alar...

Re: Politics

Looks like a fair amount of sour grapes here. At least give them some time to dig us out of the current two-headed (COVID & economy) mess. I’ll consider their administration a success if they can keep a large number of their members from going to jail (unlike the current shit show). No pardons inten...

Re: Katz on Main

This looks like a fantastic project that preserves a much loved iconic landmark. As a child I remember Katz Drugstores that were a go-to in every neighborhood. I never personally visited this location but I’ve always admired it and felt is was a part of “my Kansas City”. This plan looks to preserve ...

I agree. All the steps mentioned have helped to tie the exhibits together, with more to come. Any chance we could rename this thread “Enhancing the KC Zoo”?

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

Two good reasons:

The lagoon is in Africa and the aquarium is going to be an “all world” exhibit as I understand.

The former “Valley” area being developed ties in the Africa (elephants) section and the main original area of the zoo.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

The area between the Red Barn Children’s area and Australia (the site of the old Ape House) is slated to be a Predator Canyon exhibit. Not sure which animals (other than they’re to be predators) would be in that area. I’ve heard that the aquarium won out over the canyon for the next major improvemen...

Great news! This should rev up even more development along the route than what has already been announced.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

Multiple entrances are common in urban surrounded zoos. Having another entrance by the elephant exhibit/Valley (aquarium) would be really close to the current entrance. Not sure that would be a good use of funds/personnel. An entrance off Gregory could be constructed that would enter into Africa aro...

Not a good use of that land-the intersection is already a mess w/o QT there-and I love me some QT. I like the Zurich plan.

Re: OFFICIAL - KC Star Printing Press

The stadium proposal that incorporated apartments/condos around it in the East Village could help to enliven the “dead zone” experience cited. Smartly tying it into a corridor stretching from the convention center through the P&L and T-Mobile Center would help. The now two blocks north and east of t...

Re: Americo Plaza Tower (Former Holiday Inn)

The proposed tower would fit in nicely with the cluster of high rises already there. The Main Street extension of the streetcar is probably a prime reason for this newest proposal. The increased development activity along the extension will likely grow as we get a handle on COVID and the economy rev...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

Each facility caters to different situations. Sea Life is a smaller, Crown Center visit situation, while the new aquarium will generally be part of a longer visit to the zoo. Many zoo visitors make it a full day experience, though many with member passes do make smaller partial visits. Sea Life has ...

I’d like to put the Emery, Bird, Thayer department store on the same level as the old Board of Trade for major losses, and the old City Hall-probably a pretty long list of major losses over time.

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)

I agree with letting the market (no pun intended) determine what height works for the River Market area. The only real restriction should be safety restrictions to height due to their proximity to Wheeler Downtown Airport. Anyone know what those are, if any? The more density in that area the greater...
