Re: COVID19

It is rather amazing that NY and NJ have nearly 1/3 of US deaths from CV19 (47,000 out of 155,000) but they are only currently contributing about 3% of US deaths. Herd immunity? New York has had confirmed 442,000 cases of CV19. That's only a 2.3% of the population that are known to have the disease...

Of course not in your area but curbside takeout is working quite well at Raymore's Missouri Mud and LS Jackstack.

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

It's a great place. The former American Royal complex is a convention center. It's Kemper, Hale Arena + Governors Building There's also a large parking area for bringing in equipment and has multiple loading docks. Remember it is not Kemper anymore, it has been changed quite a bit. Also it is now p...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

Bad place for it. Other cities are using their convention centers. Convention Centers have a few advantages over other buildings. Nearby utility pits for one. It is quite likely these temporary beds will need electric hookups for monitors. Pits I believe are 40 ft apart so an extension can be relati...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I don't buy this. I think the consensus is that there will be a city funded stadium that will be surrounded by surface parking with no clear future development. If someone wants to change that, I believe they know how to reach everyone. I could see this site getting between a few different sites. H...

Restoring Residential Density by Embracing the ‘City’ in Kansas City ... What would we do if we wanted to accelerate the recent positive change, and begin to achieve our elusive urban potential? Assuming we want to, what ideas would we pursue? Our potential is vast and impressive. Bear in mind that...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

To move 10,000 people in 60 minutes takes 20 trains departing every 60 seconds. The existing stadiums and parking takes up 220 acres The entire area between HyVee Arena and 670 (excluding the train tracks) is 110 acres. If parking isn't added we need transit of course. 150 people per train. Let's s...

"Why it's so hard to create affordable housing in economically-disadvantaged neighborhoods. Again, it's the banks." One has to remember the banks are regulated. And those regulations to a great extent discourage granting a loan to exceeds the valuation of the property. Look at what happened 10 years...

Re: Politics

One recent poll has a majority of the US wanting to impeach or remove Trump from office. For those of you who desire to impeach or remove Trump remember who would replace him. Mike Pence. Pence might bring some order into the White House but politically there wouldn't be much difference.

What is funny is the two current party leaders of the House, Ryan and Pelosi, are Roman Catholics. And yet many of their political views are quite opposite. With regards to the Supreme Court currently there are 5 Roman Catholics (Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Sotomayer and Kavanaugh), 3 Jews (Breyer, Gins...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

You would honestly have to convince a lot of city staff that first. I’ve heard a number of relatively seasoned, mid level and higher employees express some pretty negative opinions on the core, streetcar, development in downtown. Then someone should clean house. And, no, I’m not kidding. They drama...

Also, when it comes to M&A involving KC companies, why does KC, more often than not, wind up on the losing end? Informix goes to CA, Embarq goes to Monroe, Louisiana(!) based Centurytel, Sprint goes to Bellevue. Those are tech companies, but over and over again we see this happen. KC has been bled ...

"I've asked this a number of times, to a number of different people, but is there actually a hard-and-fast, golden ratio for hotel rooms:convention space?" Unless things have changed over the years there is no golden ratio. There are many factors involved in the decision making process for conventio...

Our houses are about the same size: 1025 versus 1045 sq. ft. Mine was built in 1949. Her's in 2009. Her electric bill in winter is more than my gas and electric combined. I keep my house at 74 degrees year-round. She keeps her's cooler in winter because she can't afford to set her thermostat higher...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Why would a small, private school sell land to UMKC when they (Rockhurst) are also burdened with the same lack of available land? Small private colleges like Rockhurst typically have significant endowments and operating budgets and higher tuition than larger public universities. That doesn't mean t...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Doesn’t it not matter since they already have to build a new garage. That underground garage is in terrible shape, has been for years if not decades. It would not be wise to build on top of the existing garage. This is talking about the Kauffman Center garage. I stand corrected. Didn't research com...
