Re: Fast Food Options

interesting details shared here, especially the MCD's corporate mandates. I question the validity of the "No drive thru means no McD's". I have no doubt that McD's was not into whatever offer the franchisee was trying to do at P&L, but we're taking their word for it on this one? It's clearly not a ...

Re: Layoffs at The Star

It still amazes me that people have such strong political views that it causes them to believe in nutso shit. I don't know why it amazes me still, yet it does. Local news is struggling everywhere for the same reason: they had very lucrative geographic monopolies that went away. They were left with a...

Re: The Beacon- KC Non-Profit News Startup

Very interesting. I wish they'd share some names attached but I guess it's early? Who speaks on their behalf at these events? If anyone goes please report back. Their funding seems legit with the caveat they haven't shared how much they've raised. There's a couple names listed on their team page . ...

Re: Layoffs at The Star

I'm not sure how it would work though. Kevin Collision is doing his own thing with city and development news. The athletic has hired a lot of good sports reporters. What's missing is any type of investigative team, business reporting, city hall work, etc. The stuff that requires being around and cul...

The company will be owned by the distressed debt hedge funds, so expect nothing good here.

Re: Three Light

I think I'd be against making any of the park private. Downtown already lacks good outdoor community and park space. Privatizing what should be a public, shared space seems antithetical to good urban development.

Obviously that impacts what Cordish is willing to contribute, and so be it.

Some of you over index way too much based on what you read here or online comments. Vocal minorites are going to vocal minority. The plans are coming together for a fairly normal ballpark in the east village. There are smart people involved. KC has no shortage of good sports architects and they are...

Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

Yeah, employees will largely be entering through the garage they seem to be saying.

Which makes the lack of street level even more bizarre. It's like they find the whole first floor an unfortunate design constraint.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

If it happens, it'll be east village. The land is effectively banked and all the key people are involved there already.

The only neighborhood that wouldn't face extensive local opposition too.

Re: Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

I wouldn't give up Grand for this development though. I wish I understood more why they couldn't get financing to do w+r plus spec. I think that would go a long ways towards the frustrations here. The project is fine though, as long as they address the street level concerns. Long past so that we com...

Re: Three Light

It's amazing to me that Truman Road (facing a freeway trench) will eventually be lined with new buildings from Wyandotte to Oak, and we can't get entire blocks along Grand redeveloped. I hope this might change as the Embassy Suites in the old Fed comes online along with the Wyndham at the Scarritt....

Re: OFFICIAL - East Village

If they were serious about a downtown stadium, the preferred parcel would have been land-banked. 1. I’ve heard from close sources that this is where the new ownership group would like to go. They already have about 50% of the land under their control(City + UMB). 2. I’d rather see this get land ban...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

From the press conference it sounds like this group will be very open to downtown. Was nice to hear Sherman talk about surrounding urban development too and not just plopping a stadium down somewhere.
