Re: Westport

The project in Westport is part of a small PIAC request that was approved a couple of years ago. The intent of the request was to take back some space from the street using bollards and working with stakeholders to improve the spaces for activity. Westport Regional Business League / Multistudio / St...

Re: Aggressive panhandlers

I know exactly the couple you are talking about! I've also seen them cuss people out and aggressively harass people. Not sure what their deal is. They are real jerks, though.

Other than that, I haven't had issues with panhandling. Usually, the people are very polite.

Re: Brookside

You are absolutely right. Trail users should be encouraged to approach building FRONTAGES. Instead, this scheme pushes them to the "utility zone". And besides, shouldn't trails connect you TO commercial centers and not THROUGH commercial centers? I'd much rather spend money making Brooksid...

Re: Brookside

Here’s an initial summary of concerns: 1. The proposed reuse of space is contrary to our goals of building the type of city that emphasizes both transit and a multimodal public realm in one of our most valuable mixed-use districts. It vacates a slow public street to expand a parking lot. 2. As a pri...

Interesting location. I cant remember that building being anything other than St.Lukes stuff since Ive came to Westport. Building looks huge like a club spot. https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2019/04/01/gould-evans-new-westport-heaquarters.html#g/451958/3 Gould Evans in at 4200 Pennsylva...

Totally agree. I'll go see some of Californos shows. But if I am in Westport late at night on a weekend, it is probably by a cruel act of fate.

I'm thinking of Soulard in STL. Plenty of residential that is integrated all throughout the district through diverse housing types.

Re: Westport

I could definitely see it operating as a daytime spot in the future. There are already a good amount of daytime people in the neighborhood, as I witness every day.. But OPUS will bring more residents, and Manor Square will have an office of 200 new employees when SHS moves in (and could have more re...

Re: Westport

I think it is interesting how often people talk about Westport this way. I have lived in KC for 7 years and almost never go to WP at night - though I have been coming here during the day for years. I see it as a thriving daytime district. Maybe I am an optimist?

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I totally agree. If *most* Americans cared about design, our cities wouldn't look the way they do. It at least isn't at the top of everyone's priority list.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Why are only old, ornamental buildings worth saving? Isn't this the very cause of the problem this idea is meant to stop? Parts of 135th st have more ornamentation than Town Pavillion does. One of the most unique buildings in the region is on that corridor. It shows why ornamentation repres...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
You both have missed the point. It’s not the buildings that people care about, it’s the functionality of the buildings. The Sprint Center has nearly no ornamentation on it. Would it serve it’s purpose better if it wasn’t all glass? If someone said they were going to build 500 stories worth ...
