The building at 27th & Cleveland is the old Greenwood Elementary School. It was for sale http://www.kcschoolsforsale.com/
The church used to be Holy Name Catholic Church. It was here that the Kansas City riot began back in the 60's.

Re: KC 1990
My work parking lot is where the old Italian Gardens used to be and I used to eat there for lunch all the time. It would be cool if they could open up a smaller version of it in the empty storefront space that is there now. What was the small building directly to the north? Too bad bad the high r...

I was in Cupini's yesterday and it wasn't very busy. The Mango Room hasn't seemed very busy lately either. Could be the weather.

Winsteads?
I've noticed Winsteads in One KC Place is gone. I've also noticed quite a few of the old places I eat at for lunch seem to be doing half the business now that the P & L is open.

Re: McGowan Walsh splitting up
Given the uncertainty in the market, Walshes other 2 projects in the Xroads, and their internal situation, it appears to be a smart move on their part. I think we're at least 18 months away from seeing any forward movement on new loft development in DT. Once some absorption occurs and the full impa...

Re: KC's downtown office market is reviving
I think I read somewhere in the downtown section of this forum that there is around a five year office supply in downtown given the current absorption rates. Once the P&L district & performing arts center are up and running and it the city can get the East Village off the ground, he might b...

I'm assuming that the church in these photos used to be a catholic church. Does anyone here know what the name used to be?

Quote from: Sportster on January 07, 2007, 10:07:11 PM An interesting note regarding this house specifically. If you remember the Robert Altman movie "Kansas City", this house was the home for unwed black mothers in the film. The front porch roof was re-built by the film crew using photos...

One thing that I find interesting about this tract is that it is the largest tract of undeveloped land that remains in the Shawnee Mission School District other than the sq mile section to the south which is all undermined by Meritex and the Vanlerbergs.

I was born at St. Marys too back in '65. My folks moved here from central Missouri & lived in mid town. Our first house was a duplex at 40th & Tracy. They moved out to Kirkside (Ruskin area in '66) and lived there until '02. After graduation from SMSU moved back to the old neighborhood g...

I went to the commercial realtors 2006 forcast a couple of weeks ago and of the 4 major sectors (retail, industrial, office, multi-family) office is in the worse shape. There is a city wide vacancy of over 20% and they predicted it would take 8 years to fill all the vacant space. My guess is big o...

Yeah,
You'd think they'd build at least 5 story structures here. While they're at it they ought to redevelop the tract where the parking garage is on the east side of Oak north of the admin bldg.

Re: Affordable lofts in downtown
Although dues are expensive, the price of maintaining the exterior of a house is fairly comparable. Landscaping, roof, gutter, deck repairs and maintanence as well as mowing & water all add up. Add in your time doing all this stuff and $200 - $300/mo sounds like a pretty good deal. Throw in t...
