Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I looked on the Kansas City Parcel Viewer and could not find what you're referring to. Where is this on there or are you referring to something else? Zoom into Main Street next to Union Station. You should see solid lines (current streetcar) transitioning to dotted lines (extension). My bad, I had ...

Re: 14th and Wyandotte Tower

Now imagine all of the vaults we can't see...... And all the vehicles that park on sidewalks. Cars park on viaducts all the time. There's zero reason a vault under a sidewalk is an issue for anything as long as it's poured thick enough Yes, I'm sure there has been no environmental degradation nor s...

Its those vaults under the sidewalks the make me apprehensive. I can envision them collapsing under a group of Shriners or Baptists.

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

We've been to Brewer's Kitchen twice in the past few months and it's been a stellar experience both times. Though the food/menu is pretty limited/basic, salads/burgers/apps, everything is done with top notch, fresh ingredients and is quite tasty. Great selection of local beers and the the cocktails ...

Re: Downtown Overland Park

Downtown OP and Lenexa City Center are two completely different environments. OP has an existing core of bars, restaurants and businesses and is surrounded by residential that is walkable in proximity. City Center is a from scratch development that has some of the same problems of P&L, sterility, la...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I guess my problem is there is never any explanation about why there is no pedestrian experience or quantifying about why it may have been too expensive. Basically, pedestrians are a minority who's views are allowed to be ignored even thought there is copious evidence that following these guidelines...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

If you think this is all about feeling happy while walking by buildings this discussion isn't worth having. Successful cities don't build buildings like these. That isn't a coincidence. Than why has it been mentioned several times about the experience as you “walk by daily”? I’m not saying this con...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

It’s slightly pretentious that some people want the ground level of certain buildings to be a great looking situation just so they feel happy as they walk by. I get it, but it’s such a thin argument. If we want these buildings to be successful and full, function is key. Also, that whole thing about...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The flocking to defend bad design is weird to me. Nobody is saying we'd rather this building not exist but is it so bad to discuss how the design could be better at the pedestrian level especially on, you know, a urban forum full of downtown neighborhood residents who have to walk by these building...

Union Station had an adult theater in the 1970s called the Astro Theater. https://i.imgur.com/itjX18s.jpg And another thing, Huggins says, “There’s that Extreme Screen in there — is that part making any money? I could think of cooler things to put in there that wouldn’t make money, either, but they...
