Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I'd like to see it turned into a Korean place.

Krizman's Sausage Shop - Strawberry Hill

I don't remember how we discovered Krizman's Sausage in KCK (Strawberry Hill, 424 N 6th St) but it's become one of my favorite sausage shops. I believe the owners are Polish (they do sponsor the Polski Day and do a lot of church things in that area). They make a ton of sausages on location: smoked (...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I think it's a little bit of what everyone has said. KC doesn't have the same black middle/upper class visibility the way Memphis, ATL, DC/VA and some other spots do (and potentially doesn't have the same numbers. In many black circles, people are advised to seek corporate jobs in other locations ou...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I believe Gus's is white owned now. Purchased by a young woman a few years ago (they were on the show man eats food). But yes, every Gus's location I've visited has had quite a bit of racial integration, about 50/50 b/w split or even 40/60 b/w, much more so than I've seen in KC during the 6 years we...

Re: Fast Food in KC: What would you like to see?

Gus' is my husbands favorite fried chicken in the world. I/we pick it up whenever in memphis ( once a year, I grew up there). Once went alone and didn't pick up as I had early departure and he refused to talk to me for 4 days!

Re: Mo's Italian Spot - 59th & Prospect

We dropped by last night (5'ish cuz we're middle-aged and like to eat early and I ate my lunch at 10 and was starving). Had two italian beefs, one dipped one not (I don't like wet bread). Thought it was very good as did hubs (and he lives italian beef). Both had hot peppers, hubs said his were very ...

Re: Mo's Italian Spot - 59th & Prospect

We'll hit it up this weekend and report back. One of the benefits of not being from here is that we ignore most of the hand-wring of natives about locations (zomg you live in kck (down the street from ku med mind you) , you must have to carry a gun all the time!!!). It allows us to venture out, exce...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

What would be awesome, would be if some of my favorite producers opened small stalls in 39 Rainbow, just for selling their wares (not a full operation, just selling space). I bet plenty of people would stop in at lunch to pick up items before heading home from work (those who work at KU): Farm to Ma...

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

Topp'd is already open. Not too bad for individual pizzas with decent quality toppings. Reasonably priced too. Disappointing about subway, there's one at the end of rainbow and southwest.

Wish we could get a dry cleaner, bakery and good salad place and maybe an italian cafe.

Fairway North Shopping Center Improvements

There is a proposal before the UG to approve an ordinance to establish a CID to rehab the Fairway North Shopping Center (at 47th and Mission, to the east of OK Joe's, an existing strip mall with a thrift store, chinese rest, pizza parlor, dollar store, liquore store and others, across from the new w...

Re: Bridger's Bottle Shop & Preservation Market

Had an early dinner here tonight. Food was very good Great happy hour deals (charcuterie for $4, salads/apps for $5, American beer cans for $3). We started with the ham artichoke dip (I think it was ham, the boy says it was), which was ooey gooey cheesy goodness. We weren't crazy about the bread cho...

Re: Mr. Good Chicken

We've been here twice now and I think it's some of the best fried chicken in KC. Reasonably priced ( on our first visit we had 1/2 order of gizzards, two 2-piece meals( dark) with cole slaw and Mac and cheese for about $12.) . The chicken was hot, juicy, crispy. Not overly seasoned ( there is hot sa...

Re: Local Pig

Went to pick up our box Saturday afternoon and there was a huge line at the truck and lots of people in the store. My father in law, in town to see the college games, formerly of Boston and Syracuse and now in butcherless (apparently) Ogden, Utah was very impressed and took photos to send to a frien...

Re: Local Pig

signed up a week ago and just picked up our first box about 20 minutes ago. I'm super excited because while I love food and enjoy cooking, I suck at coming up with ideas on what to cook. So having a defined meat menu for the week will provide a lot of relief and all I'll have to worry about is side ...

Re: Overland Park approves conceal and carry

I'm a fan of gun ownership but not a fan of open carry. I think it leads to false bravado and dickishness (conceal carry not so much as the goal is for others not to know what you are carrying. I am getting ready to attend a CCL course, but likely won't carry myself as I don't link compact or snub-n...
