Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

Are you saying they are not using the tax as it is intended? Do you think all of that tax is required to go the ATA?

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

I guess my real issue is the media narrative that we have achieved/approved fare-free transit. Which is more an issue with how the media portrays things rather than me having an issue with people being excited for fare free transit. I’m excited for that to! I just wanna make sure it really happens

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

I think there will be fights about where the 8 mil comes from, but not to the point of not eliminating the fares. All the publicity puts pressure on the council to not backtrack. Maybe. But that’s just it, it’s still only a maybe at this point. Personally, I don’t know how they pull it off this yea...

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

The other thing I find odd about everyone celebrating the resolution is that nothing has been done yet. It tells the Manager to propose how they would fund free fare service in the next budget (which i totally support, btw). The problem is, the council may not like what he proposes and may not actua...

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

The resolution passed is about finding money within existing resources, not creating new resources. The city can't simply establish a new tax anyway- it would have to be voted on.

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

I will be very curious how next years city budget looks. There are a lot of ‘asks’ in the table from this council in addition to existing commitments that were going to be difficult to fund. Not sure how they will do it.

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

The school board already decided they will not reduce the rate. I think the city did, but only because they were required to by state statute.

Don’t forget that this is a city that will close a lane of traffic for 2 years so construction workers can park their trucks on their work site. Which is only to say if they will approve that, they will easily close a sidewalk.

Re: Layoffs at The Star

I agree that $6/mo seems a bit much for the amount of coverage he was providing. I may do it just to help subsidize and support the model though. He should really consider joining forces with the Shawnee Mission Post folks and any other independent news bloggers in the area. They could potentially r...

Where in the Xroads is the next 10+ story building most likely to get built? Like actually in the pipeline. Not just where you think one should go.

Theresa Loar's comments grate on the nerves. Is she always so annoyingly emotional??? Christ, reading her comments made me cringe as I read it in NY. Impressive "Cringe range".

Lucas talks out both sides of his mouth on most things, it's kind of his brand. I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that quote, given that it was to the star. He certainly tailors his message to his audience. Consider the Biz Journal a week or so ago. That interview definitely gave a different flavor.

I like it. Some improvements to 5th and Walnut should go with this that somehow let the streetcar go after it stops at the station vs. having to inch forward 3 feet and stop again.
Great idea. Need to install an all mode 'stop' for streetcar crossing.
