Copaken has a decent track record of downtown apartment building. Abysmal record of office construction, but obviously they’ve been able to get apartments off the ground

Re: Westport
With westport being notable for its connection to the santa fe trail and civil war battle AND being the oldest part of the city in a way, it seems like there could be more history elements to play up here

I feel like this board is 50% politics now. I get it, politics impact urban life but man it feels like lately none of the topics on here can stay on topic, and it’s making this forum a lot less usable

It's probably mostly servers now, right? Like many have pointed out, longlines/telephone buildings like this are almost impossible to decommission for any number of reasons. Every city has one

The IRS center, like the Star printing plant, might be too purpose-built to be reusable. Though, even if the facility stays, the "moat" could at least be filled in...

Is sealing it up part of the construction process, or is this to mothball the project until someone else picks it up? I’m slightly confused

I'm getting sick of it. This is becoming a textbook example of scapegoating and it's really gross.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:31 pm People use KC tenants like a freaking crutch. They aren't that powerful. It's pure inept KC leadership. Just like this vote was purely on the owners but everybody blaming KC tenants. Lol.

Goes pretty "well" when modot wants to smash a highway through the city. This city is willing to roll over if it involves roads and carsMidtownkid wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 2:06 pmProbably not without taking away people's property. And you know that would not go well...

Hope it can inject some life into that corner of downtown. There’s a surprising amount of building stock left there, but it’s pretty desolate

I love how kc is too poor for parks. The city is too poor for parks and our chronically impoverished developers are too poor for parks.
Honestly seems like a miracle we haven’t gone bankrupt like detroit yet

Re: Privately Owned Public Spaces (POPS) in SF
I like them in theory, and fun ones like rooftop gardens and observation posts are great, but I think historically POPS tend to come in the form of windswept plazas. However, that might be changing since downtown development is less office-skyscraper focused than it used to be.

Re: Aladdin--boutique hotel by Holiday Inn
I can't imagine any of the walls on the upper floors are historic. Just knock them down and reconfigure the building. Regardless, getting buildings occupied in the loop should be a priority. It is not good how many vacant historic buildings we have, especially when so many of them have brittle terra...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I think the premise of historic preservation has been at least somewhat diluted in KC. You could probably find people to stand in front of the bulldozers for the plaza, but we lose a couple of 19th century churches every year and the weld wheel building is being destroyed and the scarritt is rotting...
