Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

^The state didn't subsidize the flight to Frankfurt in St. Louis, private businesses did. The state is offering money for an international flight to come to KC now, so hopefully that helps achieve that goal.

Re: BBQ WARS!

No offense to Arthur Bryants, but I went one day at lunch and ordered ribs -they were extra dry and hard. Was disappointed. I plan on going back to try a Brisket Sandwich since everyone there seemed to be ordering it. I do like one little BBQ place in town - Chef J in the West Bottoms. It's always g...

It worked out well. Dave, FlippantCitizen, SWID, Anthony, and I showed up to Oak and Steel. Definitely a good place to meet for something like this. Next time, we'll try planning sooner so that more can come.

Re: 12th and Broadway site: RFP for mixed use

I explored responding to the RFP and pulled the plug yesterday. I know three teams are working on this. Two I know the architect and development, the other one I only know the architect and can't think of who the developer would be (but again, maybe it's obvious). Out of respect of these architects ...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

Hints of a new, signature HQ office tower in KC are floating around. Just have to know where to look. Whether or not it happens now because of the economy, I don’t know. We’ll see.

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

I’m only in my early 20s, so to pursue a project on my end of larger substance doesn’t seem wise right now.

I do want to push to get building codes rewritten for the future though. In particular, allowing for high-rise, cross laminated timber construction.

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

This parcel is for sale at the NE corner of 5th and Holmes. Chris, have you looked at it? https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/700-E-5th-St_Kansas-City_MO_64106_M98855-63101 I’ve taken a look at it. I could definitely do something there, but the problem now is uncertainty in the econom...

Here's an old masterplan.

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

Thanks Chris! You're welcome. Took a little while for it to be posted to Compass, but now its on there and we can track it. The application states that this is part of the Columbus Park lofts, so I imagine it'll take a similar design and approach to what's been built nearby. If not, I'll be pleasan...

I imagine land ownership and the desire to just get it done all at once. If not that, maybe the economics works better instead of splitting the buildings up a bit.

Re: 7400 Broadway- Apts

Looking at the plans, I'm impressed by how much better this is than the NDPJ/NorthPoint project at 31st and Wyandotte (Park Reserve site). That site is next to the streetcar line and in an area where the walkability factor needs to be increased, yet the street-level on all sides is horrendous. Meanw...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

I get why some prefer Linwood, but 31st seems more suitable in my view for high-capacity transit. The built environment is there already and it's only a block north of Linwood, so you'd be serving the same passengers. Additionally, both streets are wide enough to have dedicated right-of-ways for a s...

Picture, if you will, yourself sitting in the street car, returning to downtown from a losing Chiefs game. It is packed and you are surrounded by drunk, angry fans. I would rather walk. Or even crawl back, naked, over broken glass. Just hop across the state after a Cubs vs.Cardinals game to experie...

Re: 12th and Broadway site: RFP for mixed use

If the infill project is indeed 15 stories tall, the views from the upper five floors (presumably residential) should be pretty sweet. Well overhead of the convention center and down the slope toward Crossroads. Unfortunately a building here can’t be that tall because of the 130ft height limit. I d...
