Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
I think Mission Gateway is in default. No one really knows what's going to happen. The development agreement with the city was terminated last year due to default. Meanwhile, the property owner, Aryeh Realty, is party to a court case involving foreclosure and several liens, and the city is not a pa...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Mission is definitely seeing a bit of a revival which is great because it has backslid a little since I lived in that area in the 80's. So what is the status of the Mission Gateway part of downtown Mission. That corner of Mission remains kind of a festering sore. While at it, I wish the city would ...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Thanks very much Mr. Stritzel for posting all that information! Yes there is a good amount of development interest in Mission, and we on the council also think that Mission is heading for a vibrant future. That's my hope and aim, at least. Regarding incentives. It has been this Governing Body's (Dec...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
With the foreclosure proceedings taking place, it's not unexpected, but the Gateway developers & owner have not paid their property taxes this year. Therefore an event of default was declared in April May, and since the 60 day cure period following the default has now passed, we (the council) op...

Re: Prairie Village
all zones EXCEPT for single family housing will move forward to the Planning Commission for recommendations. Single Family will stay in council to talk through further zoning changes (or not). From where I sit, R-1 is the bulk of what's important here, so the question is basically unanswered. Wishi...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Hi again all. Glad to see you're already up to speed on this past week's votes. The key points have been well reported so I'll just leave my two cents: in short, the current deal is the best option available to us, though we are well aware nothing is certain. I'm always happy to answer questions; pl...

Re: Widening I-70
I understand the support on here for rail but lets' be honest, vast majority of people in KC and STL have no interest in using rail between the two cities. I would utilize for a fun family trip but that's about it. That’s because it runs once a day… I don’t know……. My anecdotal evidence is that mos...

New developments in the project, vote on the project approval I guess is now being pushed to early next year. Will it happen then? Who knows anymore. Updated rending attached as well, not sure if anything’s changed in it or not. https://i.imgur.com/3WDG5aT.jpg https://shawneemissionpost.com/2022/11...

58/Nall apartments passed (rezoning and preliminary development plan) on a 7-1 council vote. Big Biscuit is taking over the vacant Don Chilitos space at 6909 Johnson Drive. Proposal goes to Planning Commission July 25th. "Open House" info meeting about the Johnson Drive rehab + road diet t...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Any updates? You bet. Full disclosure, I'm on the city council, but my posts here are strictly from my own point of view and do not represent the city's position. In February the Gateway developers made a presentation to the council about a new proposal for a development agreement. Much of it is th...

MS1 isn't meant for medical arts uses but, as I just learned reading the code, I guess it's allowed if nobody else wants to lease it... I agree that it's an odd use. https://ecode360.com/28335186

Disappointment indeed. New proposal doesn't change the character of the site in the least.

60 days to cure the default by paying the taxes. Still doesn't help them finish the project by the December deadline. They'll have to make a new proposal, or I suppose sell the property.

Tidal Wave is all but done now. More notably, a road diet proposal for Johnson Drive to restripe from 4 lanes to 3 (with CARS funding) was on the Community Development agenda tonight. Item starts on page 12 of this large PDF: https://www.missionks.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/4-7-21-CDC-Packet-1.p...

Re: Best Local Trails
The “missing segment” that you refer to was due to the Parkville Boat Club not wanting to play ball. I think the new plan is to build a paved trail along 9 highway. The missing connector segment between the Missouri Riverfront Trail in Riverside and English Landing Park in Parkville is nearly compl...

Re: Best Local Trails
To be honest, I’m quite fond of the Indian creek trail, although some municipalities don’t maintain their sections as well as others, It’s an awesome trail for any type of distance. I've noticed this on maps. Is it good for cycling? Are there a lot of street crossings? Biking is the sport I'll be d...
