Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

One thing that I didn't realize until recently is there's no pleasure boat docks at KC on the MO River Omaha has a small marina and the other direction looks to be at Washington MO Agree, this is a big bummer for KC. There's also Cooper's Landing in Columbia, with a small dock, gas and camping (and...

Re: Downtown Parking Enforcement

All parking tickets should have a map of downtown parking on the back. And maybe stats about how many parking spots are downtown.
I like this idea a lot. Pairing education and enforcement.

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

If we had any competent leadership at the time, this is what should have been done in KC. Downtown stadium on the Missouri side, training and youth complex on the Kansas side. Everyone wins. Alas... Even an MLS stadium in downtown KCK would have been hugely preferable to the current location. Actua...

And people still get way more worked up over using TIFs downtown while this stuff is just fine. Even though this is way way worse. Truly absurd corporate welfare in suburban greenfields. Some things never change. And 3.5 million people are going to visit a suburban hockey arena? That's the dumbest ...

Lunch from 11a-2p Tuesday-Friday.⠀
Tuesday-Friday at 7a for breakfast from Morning Day Cafe KC
Friday happy hour/dinner from 4-8p⠀
Saturdays 9a-1p and 4-8p⠀
Wow yeah that Saturday "pause" is dumb and annoying. Hope that changes.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

And... thank you for the compliment on the PAC panel color. :D Years ago, a couple of us walked all over downtown with large (and heavy) precast samples and held them up to various limestone buildings to get the color and tone right (or at least narrow the options and send them to Safdie). I suspec...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The Plaza was so upscale it had a McDonalds for decades. You're looking for something it never was and complaining it's becoming something it's always been. I don't know that this is fair. The plaza certainly was (is?) a "premier shopping destination". Certainly before the big retail boom out south...

Re: North Kansas City

So I've been in the afternoon once to check out the amaro selection, how much space at the bar? I must have totally missed it. It's a small bar in the back corner of the store, probably 8-10 seats at bar, and then a bar table or two and a lounge area with chairs. To your point, doesn't seem to be w...

I will be spending a night in St. Louis next week and am completely ignorant of the city, except for how to drive through it. Looking for a hotel in a walkable area with bars/restaurants. Where should I stay? I agree with the suggestions for Central West End or Delmar Loop area hotels. You will be ...

Re: Do you have or plan to get Google Fiber?

We recently purchased an older (1957) home in Riverside, MO, a couple blocks from KCMO city line, and evidently Riverside was never wired with Google Fiber. So AT&T or Spectrum it was, and we ended up going with a Spectrum "Double Play" package with the 400 Mb internet and cable (pretty extensive ch...

Just ate at Strouds north last Saturday - definitely a ton of character, which to me is the primary reason to go. Also the cinnamon rolls and chicken choker shared rum cocktail. Relatively cheap comfort food served in an awesome old farm house, or back in the day the old Troost road house under 85th...

So many other projects did a great job of matching the synthetic(cheaper) cladding to natural limestone(the KCPA, the Whitaker Courthouse). Not so the Federal Reserve as it is actual limestone.
Exactly.

Lucas's anti-development focus is a little surprising, and disappointing. Hope we didn't set the city back another several years worth of investment with his election.

Yeah, just removing the cut through and expanding the existing public space along Broadway and Westport Road would be a big win, along with maybe doing some expanded curbs around the intersection at Broadway there to reduce the width of the crossing and slow traffic. Want to see some of the Westport...

If those are precast, look at the panels on the PAC to get a sense of how they may age.
To my eye, the panels on the PAC look like a much more accurate facsimile of limestone.

I wish the panels on the hotel looked like those.

Interesting. I was under the impression a lot of the new downtown apartments were being filled by the young Cerner'ites. Yeah, anecdotally I feel the same way. Yup. I'd say KC people generally have no idea how much other cities' are growing. We pale in comparison. And the pipeline is looking pretty dry. Yep, 100%. Unbelievable the recent attitude we're seeing in the Star and the beginning of the current mayoral administration (to be fair, still very early).

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

Agree that the Reiger Distillery is an amazing space and a wonderful new addition to the KC scene. Essentially a boozy version of the awesome Boulevard Visitors Center/tap room. Loved the amount of effort they put into the historical piece, for a brand that has really only existed as-is since 2014. ...
