Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Sad to see Muddy's close on 51st. A blow to the area and UMKC. Not sure I understand how a coffee shop couldn't make it there.

Re: Chouteau Parkway Transformation to Begin in 2012

Alas, this project has already forced Diamond Joe's to close and the venerable Donut King to move to North Kansas City in new strip mall. The Donut King flashing lights signage will sorely be missed.

Re: UMKC projects

Yeah, the south side will certainly require some innovative landscaping to bring a little life to the pedestrian experience, but I think the end pieces are really cool.  Also, the new student union seems to be coming along nicely.  Looks like most of the exterior work is done.  Here is a live webcam...

Here's a link to updated pictures of the south exterior of the newly remodeled Miller Nichols Library.  Wow!  http://www.flickr.com/photos/umkclibraries/sets/72157624391627057/ How cool is the back-lit sheet metal? 1926 Chamber of Commerce Map of Kansas City perforated into sheet metal and illuminat...

Re: UMKC: Oak Street West Development

Stopped by Red Mango today.  They've only been open a little over a week.  It was great!  It's a self serve location.  There were about 10 different yogurt flavors to choose from and probably 25+ topping choices.  It's a small and attractive space and I think they're going to do awesome with a mix o...

Re: PUMP UP THE ROOS!

It would look to be the smallest arena in the conference, but not too far out of line with several of the other schools.  It should make for a lively environment in that the Roos usually draw about 1,500 at Municipal.   Summit League arena capacities: IUPUI (2,215) Oakland (3,000) IPFW: 2 venues (2,...

Re: PUMP UP THE ROOS!

So long Municipal...Roos will play full-time on campus beginning this year. Well, this was probably inevitable and probably a good thing. While I will miss the Roos playing downtown and in historic Municipal, moving games is simply the right thing to do at this time. This move will save the Athletic...

Line out the door at 8:00 pm on Saturday evening.  One of the girls said the line had basically been like that all day.  Lots of old people enjoying at well, I found that a little surprising.  We tried the following: French Lavender (excellent, fragrant, subtle, and smooth A) Mango sorbet (so flavor...

Re: Rooftop Park Opens Above Cosentinos

The wife and I visited the park Saturday afternoon.  It's a nice space.  They need to get some trash cans in the restroom stat or it's going to be disgusting.  BUT, BUT, BUT, how can anyone enjoy that space when the music from Jones pool is blaring with terrible techno and 90's pop??  While the park...

Any idea what is going on with matinee pricing? Everything is $10 regardless of the time? Doesn't seem like a good idea or draw during the day. Can anyone confirm that the reserved seating is working online? The reserve seating is AWESOME. It makes it so that you can come whenever you want into the...

Haven't seen anybody mention 5 Guys Burgers and Fries!  I think it's outstanding and would choose it over several local burger joints.

Re: My Inaugural Experience

It amazes me that with 4 days notice of the impending Hurricane Katrina, people in NO just couldn't afford or didn't have the means to evacuate the city.  However, I'm sure a good majority of these same people were able to  make it to Washington DC to watch the Inauguration for several days. Perhap...

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown

Seriously, what kind of low-roller wants to spend bucks on an SC event and a night out only to cap it off by a meal at a grocery store? "Gee Marcy, I really enjoyed taking you to Coldplay/Opera/Ferrets on Ice tonight.  Wanna hit Cosentino's deli before having relations?" What a snobby sta...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

One thing that always bothers me is the people who claim NBA tickets are too expensive for the average person.  Below are the cheapest tickets offered by NBA teams in smaller markets compared to the rest of the league.  (Mind you, these are the nose bleed seats, but don't let anyone tell you NBA tic...

Re: Habitat Leaving the Crossroads

Obviously, grocery stores and places for immediate goods are needed, but, clothes, electronics, furniture, etc. can all be found cheaper on the web.  No disrespect, but I think this type of attitude hurts places like Habitat.  Sure, I could have bought my last 5-6 pairs of shoes online and saved ...
