Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Not to split hairs, but Spin started in OP, then expanded to mid-town, then LS, IIRC. Drat, I stand corrected...being a relatively recent transplant to the area bites me in the ass!  Still, though, I think it's nonetheless a decent exemplar of a particular concept working equally well whether locat...

Re: Raglan Road

I went only a couple of times when it first opened (which also coincided with a span of time when I was working at 12th and Grand.  I did actually go with work people for lunches, for what it's worth.  Don't know if any of them are still frequenting the place.  The food was decent enough, if pricey ...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Yes, the mere feet separating LS from KC city limits represent a VAST divide of urbanity and social je ne sais quoi.  I know that when I wanna get my class on, I need only cruise up 350 to experience the unimaginable bourgeois fineries of Knobtown and the like.

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

I now live i Lees Summit and am too fat to fit in my jorts, and my kids don't play soccer. That said, the big difference that I see is a more KC friendly attitude in Lees Summit, a lot fewer non natives. Most people from out of town tend to locate in JoCo where Lees Summit people tend to be from th...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Wow, I just got off Reece and Nichols website and there are some nice tudors over there.  I've heard from a few people that a lot of the houses in Waldo have flooding issues.....has anyone experienced that?  While we were house shopping, we rented a ranch in 64114 that was, like all the other homes...

Fantastic story, and fantastic educational model.  I'm pretty sure that's the school behind the Redemptorist church.

The signage is up at Summit Fair, although the inside isn't set up yet.  Was next door to it at Sakura last night.

We were amazed when we were able to get a seat with no wait at all the morning of the St. Patrick's Day parade. It was reasonably full, but no wait.  We also hadn't been  in months (since we moved out of that part of town), and they appeared to have somebody competent doing seating, which wasn't alw...

Re: beer.

Aw, Spotted Cow comes from the New Glarus Brewing Co., which makes some really fantastic specialty brews, and isn't too far from the college where I cut my beer-drinking teeth back in the day. The owner also does his "unplugged" edition, a handcrafted, crazy beer a few times a year as a ve...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

KCPD appears to be making a concerted effort to have a nighttime patrol car presence in Waldo lately. I cut through the old neighborhood on my drive home from choir rehearsal two nights a week, and for the past two weeks, the area between Gregory and 85th has been fairly crawling with squad cars...a...

Re: Neighborhood Security ?

It's dark as hell on our street - the street lights all function, but the light is shaded by the trees I think.  And all of them are one side of the street.  Maybe that is the deal? Our old street in Santa Fe Hills was like this...street lights, but very shaded, so the trees blocked out the street ...

Oatmeal Stout without going to Lawrence?  Awesome.  However, I will still go to Lawrence for Free State's artichoke spread, unless they start bottling that to sell here, too.

Re: Most "Luxurious" move Theater in Kansas City

We used to live about a block and a half from the Plaza theatre, and always went there unless it was to see some indie at the Tivoli.  I always liked Cinemark on the Plaza well enough, though we never availed ourselves of the VIP lounge.  I miss being nearby that theatre, as the closest one to me no...

I've heard wonderful things about this, can't wait to check it out! The Pitch had a review last week, that was terrible, but the reviewers sounded like a pain in the ass.  Ordered one with carmelized apples and some other sweet stuff then complained it was too sweet.   ](*,) Feruzza's reviews, whet...
