Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore
Apologies if this has been posted previously. The tiniest bit of credit is due in that they did make some token improvements AFTER the plan was approved, adding some tiny cut-outs for gallery spaces to the otherwise blank wall. It was safe to assume that their promises to continue to work with plann...

It's not working as designed. Some of the detectors (chiefly the ones that look like WALL-E) don't work very well. The Death Star ones have a better track record. If it fails to detect you, or if it detect you going the proper direction, report it. The failure to discern direction has been a problem...

Re: Amateurs talk tactics, experts talk logistics
Challenge here is assuming the residents know what is best for the neighborhood or have its future interests in mind. They usually don't all agree, and different generations have different feelings about change. There still needs to be some effort to plan using best practices to build a city for the...

There are also some fairly recent permits for Second & Delaware: http://kivaweb.kcmo.org/kivanet/2/land/summary/index.cfm?fa=1&pin=148512 The vacation of Delaware St north of 2nd was completed last week, which was one of the last steps. I would suspect we will see this project move soon. Utility ma...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
Some of those trees were problematic anyway, because they dropped the pods that were causing people to fall. The constructors worked with arborists and only removed trees that were specifically in the path of future facilities (shelter) or that would have surely been killed by OCS foundations. The C...

Re: Downtown Parking Enforcement
People are STARTING to accept that you can't say "this is about the success of our businesses" and oppose parking meters are time limits in the same breathe. The on-street parking problem is overstated right now because every time-limited spot had people blissfully parking all day in them, without f...

500 Grand is an Integrated Construction Solutions project. The new offices already in the building were part of this project, but I haven't heard anything about the rest of the spots.

Re: Downtown survey: People happy to live downtown
Is surprising they allow anyone to take the survey, not validating if a downtown resident. Yeah, I'm really surprised they don't better filter it. I really hope they don't use it as some mandate of resident opinion, since it is very unscientific. They also don't assess priorities of the issues they...

I totally agree. The existing simple demarcation was befitting a big city police force and its officers. When you think of the most notable police "brands," simple, classic typography is the norm.

What I've seen doesn't reference that, but I know they aren't done with planning yet. I'd be a little surprised to see that in this spot.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
There is a classic chicken/egg problem with the City Market. Tenants don't want to stick with consistent later hours because there is a lunch and festival mentality. A few have tried and they didn't stick. I think we need some sort of City Market Flash Mob where we get the businesses open at night a...

Re: 2012 Downtown Housing Report
Yup, in the presentation to the Downtown Neighborhood Association, the River Market West project was 5 stories. On the 2nd and Delaware, it looks like this will span Delaware with the street corridor entering the underground garage, with a courtyard built on top. Another unfortunate street vacation,...

abilene! the eisenhower library is great! also, nebraska city. most of the missouri river towns have something worth a visit, even if it's just to soak up how those towns embrace a riverfront. we are pretty isolated. it feels like i've already exhausted the options. have you checked out the "day tr...

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but the new forum search is a bit limited and I wasn't able to find anything. If anyone can point to an old thread, I'll happily merge. Anyway, one of the few things I don't like about KC compared to other cities is our relative lack of nearby destinations. I...

So say I eat at one of the legends fabulous restaurants prior to the match...can i stay parked at the legends or do I risk being towed. Damn I hate driving to crap. I struggle with this too. Awesome. Thanks for sharing! To save the rest of you some time: it isn't on Netflix. I searched. Apologies if this is a duplicate but my search didn't turn anything up and I can't read back through 56 pages . . . When we lived in the historic Northeast our older neighbors told us that they remembere...

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
glad to see this building saved but even better is that there is a momentum of downtown residents who are now impacting things that happen downtown. that's the much bigger deal here. downtown as a community is maturing. Agreed. I think even 5 years ago, this would have come down with a few whimpe...
