Re: Restaurants you ate out at as a kid

After my father finished preaching on Sunday, we would pack into the car (a thoroughly gangsta 1987 Lincoln Town Car) and drive 26 miles to the Golden Corral in the next county. It's not that our 5,000 person town didn't have restaurants, in fact, it had several of them better than the Golden Corral...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not what I am arguing at all.  I am agreeing that Lincecum had #1 caliber upside on draft day.  But scouts were clearly talking at the time about the massive risk around his long term health.  Agreed. Everyone (including San Francisco) was terrified about his health prospects. There's been a...

Re: Top 100 Worst Songs ever

It must also only be taking into account adult popularity or I would have to think the thing would be dominated by Bieber/Miley Cyrus/Jonas Brothers/Disney Channel pre-teen pop du jour.  Most of us manage to successfully tune that crap out unless you live with a pre-teen, otherwise it would have to...

Re: Top 100 Worst Songs ever

A song being popular is one of the critical elements to it being one of the worst.

If it weren't, the list would be entirely populated by 15 year olds who threw together a metal album in their garage.

Re: Top 100 Worst Songs ever

Nothing so wrong about those songs but what about the bubblegum music (Yummy, Yummy, Yummy) and the novelty songs (Snoopy vs the Red Baron), or songs by TV stars (Ringo) - not counting the Monkees.  MacArthur Park should be on the list for various reasons. Some of the songs on the list I feel shoul...

I feel that Chumbawumba's "Tubthumping" wins the Fail Triple Crown.

Worst band name, worst song name, and of course, worst song.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing is, Double A is a better place to determine the mettle of your prospects. Triple A is mostly a good place to see how they'll fair against veteran journeymen who are waiting to be an injury replacement.

Looking through some of those articles, I'm startled by the lack of professional polish. I thought stateside news editors were bad.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a sad organization.  Every year I get my hopes up that the Royals just might threaten to compete for a division title.  A quarter century and still nothing.  It's almost laughable anymore. Why do you get your hopes up? It was a crappy roster, it's producing crappy results. The time to be disap...

This. Seems like what you'd do to salvage his value. Maybe in a short outing he can sharpen his command. But there's no way I'd want the Royals to be that team. FWIW, Jason Stark quotes a source that says the Royals are not interested in Franceour or Perez. I would have been willing to give it a sh...

I doubt this is true, but does anyone else wonder why no one has ever tried converting Oliver Perez into a reliever?

Re: Kansas City to get 2012 MLB All-Star Game

Does the place where it's held affect ratings? Not much free advertising for Anaheim. The Chiefs on MNF will have better ratings and it's on cable. http://www.examiner.com/x-53449-Chicago-Sports-Media-Examiner~y2010m7d15-81st-MLB-AllStar-Game-recieves-lowest-ratings-ever Yes. Re: How to visit Washington?

If your son has an appointment with the admissions office at Georgetown, call them and ask for a recommendation for a hotel. Several years ago they would connect you with a cheap room on Dupont Circle, particularly if your trip is on a weekday. I'm not sure if this is still in practice, or if they c...

Re: Mizzou to the Big Ten?

Yeah because MU was being held down academically in the Big 12....I'm sure that's why MU finished 8th. http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/best-colleges/2010/03/15/athletic-conference-breakdown-2010-big-12.html While definitely amusing, I have two issues with this comment. One, MoMan didn't im...

Police said they are looking into why it took officers more than 40 minutes to catch up with Justin. -from the KC Star. I will tell you why. Because KCMO police dispatchers are idiots. I doubt that the KCMO police dispatcher ever dispatched a unit for Justin's call. The dispatcher was probably look...

I imagine the age of the Florida and Nevada residents may be playing a part in those low scores as well, as physical well being is part of the composite.

Re: Big 12 Football 2009

I agree wiith the sentiment about the Leach business seeming shady. Since when did it take a university 40 hours to investigate anything? The answer, of course, is when they've already made up their mind about the firing before it starts. I don't think the situation at Kansas was dissimilar. What ha...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a general manager (in any team sport), you have 3 goals you are striving for with every personnel move you make. You won't often succeed at all 3 (no one said this was easy) but it's the definition of a perfect signing or trade. 1. Get Better. 2. Get Younger. 3. Get Cheaper. The Royals signing of...

big 12 conference handbook section 2.4 bowl game revenue.  Paraphrasing...all revenue divided equally after expenses deducted. http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410/pdfs/handbook/ConferenceHandbook.pdf Interesting. I don't believe that's consistent among other conferences. Great deal for the Baylors...
