Re: Midtown Area Apartment Boom
The Carmen Building was nominated to the City's Historic Register at Friday's Historic Preservation Commission meeting. It goes to city council next. The owner of the property claimed they want to build a 'very nice' 15-story apartment building on the site. Developer is from Lenexa. Said something a...

Anyway back to Austin, I was just saying that policies such as ending minimum parking requirements, eliminating single-family zoning and allowing up to three homes on each residential lot have helped encourage development which resulted in a small decrease in housing costs. I don't see either of th...

Re: Why is the Crossroads an “Arts” District?
One major thing is the PIEA that is in place to support any arts-related business district. https://kccrossroads.org/crossroads-arts-piea/ "The Crossroads Arts PIEA is a tax abatement program in the Crossroads Arts District specifically designed for properties with arts and cultural uses, inclu...

travis and patrick opening a steakhouse on the ground level facing Baltimore and soon to be cap - 1587 Prime Hope they do OK. Seems to be kind of a saturated market in KC. It will compete directly with the place in the P&L District. I feel like our high end (expense check) steakhouse market may...

1587 Prime - Steakhouse in Loews Hotel
Mahomes and Kelce are bringing a swanky new steakhouse to the Loews Hotel. Looks really nice! https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/article/patrick-mahomes-teaming-up-with-travis-kelce-to-open-new-restaurant-in-kansas-city/ar-BB1jTHFv?rc=1&ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=4de42c72f5404255beffbdacd5a0832a&a...

Re: Parade Park
Well, that's uninspiring. Appreciate the density, but the massing and acres of surface parking are rough for creating a neighborhood. At least the buildings front the street with parking 'hidden' within the block. What do you expect? Structured parking? That would be way too expensive for this type...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
What if the new Royals stadium included a large art gallery that faced Grand? It could be programmed and open all year. Some of the art could be sports related, but I think it would be cool to be more diverse than that. Why not create a space for Green Dirt and maybe some of the other displaced busi...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!
I feel as though many of the SFHs around 39th could use replacing. I’m not saying a new 2+5 but at least some walk ups or row homes. The housing stock is not always in great shape. similar to north plaza in that regard Leave my beautiful neighborhood alone! I don't see what needs replacing. I am re...

22nd is not an easy street to have good frontage on in this exact spot. There is a big grade change here.

This proposal looks nice. With all the modern new houses nearby I like to see this contrast. It's right by Belger Crane Yard Studios. Good location!

Always liked this building, but I think it would be better as housing. It always seemed half empty (not sure if it is).

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I see some ppl on social media calling for the plaza to be demolished to make way for a new Royals stadium. Really? Really!? People really don't appreciate what we have. The Plaza as a built-environment is nearly perfect. (ample parking that is all hidden away, beautiful landscaping, attractive buil...

No loss. That's a prime space. Hopefully they will get a less common retailer on there.msmith011 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 11:47 am Forever 21 is closing per Joyce Smith: https://x.com/JoyceKC/status/1762262054465913017?s=20

The case to preserve 4526 Warwick continues. The owners claimed 'economic hardship' to allow for the demolition of the grand old house. The case was heard at the Historic Preservation Commission meeting on Friday and was denied. The next step may be court. The house is safe for now. https://fox4kc.c...

CAVA is 'temporarily' closing. Their plan is to expand their food and drink options.
Hope they do come back. I haven't been in a while, but I've always enjoyed it.
Has anything opened in the old Julep space?
