Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand
Wouldn't the political compromise be a park that's an included amenity for Cordish residents but is "open" to residents as long as they pay a high annual fee? You ward away most non-Cordish users with the entry price but still can claim it's accessible to all, generate a small income, and if presse...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand
Fantastic news, thanks for sharing DCole. Is there still small retail space included for the park? Curious how Cordish would feel about that given they still have available stalls in P&L.

Re: Three Light
First off, Kansas City isn’t the type of market where it’s financially possible to build “remarkable” residential tower exteriors. The negative comments on this forum about the exterior of the buildings have no real impact on the success of the buildings. More important than impressing development ...

I also forgot to mention... IF not for all the councils idiotic political posturing, we would also have gotten a 30+ floor landmark residential tower. Enjoy your 18 floor apartment proposal you're about to get. Alright, now you're reaching. "Landmark" seriously? How many inane pages of this form ha...

What exactly have you contributed to the metro?flyingember wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 10:58 amoh, I knew that. it's what makes your points so sad. One big success and you moved into a role where you're maintaining the status quo with tiny changes to the existing network in ways that decrease ridership per capita

Re: Beacon Hill
The fundamental idea is two contradictory ideas 1. that the floor for pay should be $15/hour 2. the ceiling for new construction rentals should be based off today's minimum wage The fundamental idea is that you create these strawman arguments that nobody is talking about. My original argument is: A...

Re: Beacon Hill
$68,000 is very close to the $15 minimum wage goal many have. It looks like $32/hour is enough for $1660 per month. At 40 hours per week, you work a total of 2,080 hours per year. $15 x 2,080 = $31,200 gross. That’s less than half of $68,000, so a couple both working full time at $15/hr still would...

I've had my issues with Lucas re: development, but he's being consistent & fair here. It's the developer & Kevin Collison who have bungled things. Lucas in 2018, when the council decided to set a specific amount for something to qualify as "affordable": https://www.kcur.org/government/2018-05-24/can...

Re: 5th & Main Southern Corners
Chaglang is right on the money here. There’s nothing about this design that is fanciful or improbable. It’s not common, but that has no bearing on viability. From a code standpoint, the A/E team has to do two main tasks with the bridge: 1) protect the building above from any fires started on the str...

RS Means is the old school standard for cost estimate data. It’s not anywhere near cheap for an individual to buy into, but I have seen older editions in some libraries for use over the years.

This keeps getting more bizarre. KCUR now is stating demolition and replacement with a new Royals stadium is possible. Shameful from a sustainability perspective, if true. I’m skeptical, seems like owner trying to juice attention. https://www.kcur.org/news/2020-11-11/could-the-stars-soon-to-be-vacat...

There’s plenty you can do with glazing to make it work for art display (without completely obscuring). Especially when you have an instance like here where the main “feature” is north facing. No reason the north face couldn’t be a sculpture court and/or lobby space. The modern wing of the Chicago Ar...

https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article246896127.html The KC Star is officially vacating its iconic glass building. It's a sad but unsurprising move. I've always thought this building would be a great location for a satellite/expansion of the Kemper or Nelson museum. Or a complete relocation o...
