Re: Layoffs at The Star

I will subscribe to CityScene. I may pay for it by dropping my subscription to the Star. Local business news is all I'm interested in and the Star's business section doesn't change for days on end.

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

If the office building at 13th and Wyandotte, the hotel next to the Crowne Plaza, Waddell and Reed, Three Light, and Strata all happen with overlaps in construction times, that is going to be a very busy corner of the loop.

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

They are projecting it will take two full years to build. I thought it might take less time since they're not moving dirt.

Re: Companies moving downtown

From unionstation.org: 1988 The city of Kansas City, Mo. initiates legal action against the redevelopment company for failing to redevelop the Station. 1994 The City and Trizec agree to settle their six-year lawsuit. A new not-for-profit corporation, Union Station Assistance Corporation (USAC), is e...

Re: Companies moving downtown

From Wikpedia: The city government of Kansas City wished to preserve and redevelop the building. To facilitate this, in 1974, they made a development deal with Trizec Corporation, a Canadian redevelopment firm.[9] Included in the deal was an agreement that Trizec would redevelop the station. Between...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

I thought I remembered something like that, Moderne. And, if I remember correctly, the family had no interest in selling. Of course, that was a long time ago. Perhaps they'll be receptive, now. Also, if the city acquires the land and decides to build a parking deck, is there a way they could seek a ...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

I wonder if they have reason to think the owners would finally sell. Didn't the city explore purchasing this property before, like in the '80s or '90s, and the owners weren't interested? Or maybe it was a prospective convention hotel developer that was interested in it and was rebuffed.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Chaglang, I suggested once - several years ago - that the forum soule be more useful if it were divided into two parts: 1) news and 2) opinion. I'd still prefer it if it were like that.

Re: Layoffs at The Star

You're not alone. As an aside, while most stories in the Star hang around for days (or weeks in the case of business news), I can't find that story this morning. Maybe it came to light that the charges of left wing harassment turned out to be as bogus as they sounded - charges of feces distribution ...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

Agreed, Fang. This change was pushed through without public input. I say, change Main Street. Or 63rd Street. But not Paseo. Or Prospect. Or Troost. These names are Kansas City history.

Re: Companies moving downtown

If and when the need arises for office construction to move out of the loop, I imagine it occurring in the Crossroads and along Main between Crown Center and the Plaza rather than Paseo West.
