Re: Tension Envelope Building

Tension was definitely still making specialty envelopes (among other things) in that building 5 years ago, with loads of machines running on several floors. It seemed like a pretty sizable operation, but their bread and butter products were manufactured in China at the time.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

"Edit: Is this the building that was hit by a car several months ago?"

That's the one. And it was hit by another car a few doors down to the East.

"I don't think Peggy's retaining her lease. There's a rumor that Birdies will also relocate. In the article, the developers claim to be getting 'hate mail' but don't elaborate. Actual reporting would enlighten this- and perhaps Sight Commercial Realty could be more transparent about their visio...

Re: Westside happenings

I feel like it's a bit of a bait & switch, bobbyhawks. Neighbors expressed plenty of concern about parking and parking spillover from the 130 new units, and rightly so. This concern was assuaged by the developer - but in retrospect this was never done in a specific sort of way, they just reassur...

Re: Westside happenings

LOL. Yeah, I figured it was legit. Most of the neighborhood has never been happy with any of the plans that've been presented for that place, but something had to happen & I'm glad it did. If anyone would've thought to ask about this issue it would've been another huge bone of contention. Plenty...

RE: Switzer Lofts Looks like construction is about done on the lofts & they'll be opening soon. I was checking out their website & it looks like they're charging residents $65-$105 for parking spaces. One way of looking at the project is that they've added additional parking which wasn't alr...

Re: Crossroads West

Wald & Co Fireworks occupied part of that site for years if I'm not mistaken. Imagine a large quantity of commercial grade fireworks (and stuff for the kids of course) stored in an area that built-up nowadays... not going to happen!

Re: KC School District Buildings... Reuse?

Here's a bit of information about the current Switzer school (Westside KC) redevelopment plan that's being kicked around. Looks like just under 100 units total are being proposed, with many of them in new construction townhouses behind the school along West Pennway & Madison. If I knew more or h...

Re: YJ's Snack Bar

That sucks if they have had to remove some of their tables. I don't see the problem with limiting outside usage from 1-5am though. People gotta sleep. Ah -- noise was the problem? I'd seen people hinting at parking issues as related to the number of tables present, which shouldn't be an issue for a...

Re: YJ's Snack Bar

From Facebook (gah): " The city of Kansas City, Missouri has eliminated one-third of YJ's tables, limited the use of the sidewalk, and has eliminated all out door seating from 1am to 5am. This will result in loss of jobs at YJ's Snack Bar's small, local business. Join this facebook group to sup...

we are going to santa fe (by auto) in a few weeks.  any recommendations for interesting sights, hikes, dining, etc.? You can probably still head to Ski Santa Fe which is only 18 miles from downtown... if you're into that sort of thing. The top of the tallest skiable peak there is 12,000'+, and it's...

Re: Mission Hills #3 richest neighborhood in america?

Anyone know the down & dirty details of how Kansas' unlimited homestead exemption for bankruptcy cases works? As I understand it, the big ritzy homes in Mission Hills can't be seized if the owner's declare bankruptcy. Is your company going down the tubes? Quickt... dump all of your assets into r...

Re: Shovel your whole sidewalk; not just your doorstep.

The freeway bridges yes, not city responsibility, but street bridges would be city responsibility. And the sidewalks on the train bridges? I'd figure those would be city... they're not cleared at all, by the way. EDIT: I still give the city a poor score for clearing the way for pedestrian traffic. ...

As are the sidewalks over the pedestrian thoroughfares that I mentioned previously -- notably the freeway bridges & the bridges over the tracks between 20th and 22nd. These areas are critical for pedestrians & seem to go overlooked.

Re: Shovel your whole sidewalk; not just your doorstep.

I'm really not into fining everybody but I would love every land owner with a surface lit or otherwise abandonded property downtown fined I'm starting to come around to that same viewpoint, even though I still get the feeling that the city would have to cop to their own massive hypocrisy to levy fi...

Re: Shovel your whole sidewalk; not just your doorstep.

Wow... did they actually get the sidewalks over 670, as well as the sidewalks of Pennway, Main, Grand, McGee, Oak, Holmes, Charlotte st., etc which go over the train tracks between 20th & 22nd or so? These are kind of crucial areas for pedestrians... there aren't any parking lots or privately ow...
