Re: College Boulevard Road Diet

I don't get it. There is like zero demand for street parking there. Why not just make a really nice protected cycle track?

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

What is the point of paying to tear down such a large structure with no plan to develop the land? There are already tons of empty lots ready to be developed. This is just blocks from east village which has tons of land and has not been able to get anything going for many years. It looks like this is...

Re: 13th and Grand tower

That block has sat empty for so long that anything would be great. I don't see KC getting a real skyscraper probably in my lifetime. I have just accepted that reality. But stop calling it a landmark office tower. I mean good lord, DC probably has 500 buildings like this. It's a nice infill project,...

Re: Four Light

So, in nearly another decade downtown "might" get a significant building like 4 light? But it will likely takes years longer. Look how long it's taking to get 3 light started? This is all great news I suppose, but KC is still a very slow growing and slow changing place unless you compare it to Memph...

Re: 4711 Belleview

Good to hear. Looks like that tower proposed for 46th died too. Crazy how little the plaza has changed since I left KC over ten years ago (retail portion seems to have dropped another tier too).

Re: One Kansas City Place

If there was more modern office space in downtown KC, would One KC place even be considered class A anymore? It just does not seem like the top class A building it once was. I don’t think that any of the big KC towers would be categorized as Class A if/when WR, Strata, and 13 Wyandotte Open. No won...

Re: 4711 Belleview

Wow, this seems like a perfect project for this site. Nice scale, but dense, decent design, good height. It's replacing a few really bad blocks in the plaza area. But I would imagine it will wake up a lot of NIMBYs.

Re: OFFICIAL - Waddell & Reed - 14th & Baltimore

I have a feeling this will turn out nothing like the renderings. It will look like what it really is. Mostly a parking structure. I don't see B&M pulling off making the garage look like the office space like the renderings show.

Re: UMKC: Oak Street West Development

I feel like UMKC Is just trying to do this location over and taking advantage of the situation to build a better project at the location. I'm sure the garage will stay, so it can't be as big of a loss as they are stating.

Re: Closing Streets for events/construction

I have always said that, even when I lived there. Closing Grand makes downtown feel even more dead and if cars can't easily reach the area, I can't see how it's helping the P&L district. Close it after events for less than an hour. Not even before events as it's not needed. Only after when the arena...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

^ that makes so much more sense than what KC is doing. I mean, I still don't see how it makes sense to extend the streetcar to the riverfront if it's just going to be a handful of 4-5 story apartments with a lot of parking. While KC is at it, tear down the casino and build a new one with a proper ho...

Re: Fast Food Options

In the 90's, the City Center Sq McDonalds and the Plaza Mcdonalds were both two of the busiest in the metro. I'm surprised Downtown doesn't have more of not only fast food, but general retail. Seems like the downtown population is high enough now that there should be more basic retail. I'm sure it's...

Re: "RideKC Next" transit system redesign

Maybe we need to stop obsessing with "peer cities" and use our own brain power to create a great system that works for everyone. Why would you not? That is really close minded. Without even really knowing the details of KC's budget issues, it's quite obvious that the KC transit system is woefully u...

Re: "RideKC Next" transit system redesign

Sorry, I derailed the thread. As far as the topic and my comments. I took a quick look at transit systems in peer type cites and KC’s ridership, number of buses etc does seem significantly smaller than most similar sized cities. I think the main reason for this is because the metro is so fragmented....
