Whittaker Courthouse Facade Replacement
GSA is planning to replace the facade on the "new" courthouse. An RFQ for a Construction Managers just went out. The current curtain wall is leaking and a serious safety hazard to visitors. Leasing a new courthouse or building an entirely new one were considered but would have cost more. ~$57 millio...

Re: COVID19
Missouri has the second lowest per capita covid rate (7/100k) in the United States according to Wash Post. Only Hawaii beats us (4/100k). This is the 7 day rolling average of course. My and my friends/family travel experience has been 100% mask wearing in Missouri restaurants. 100% mask wearing in M...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Yes KCI police monitoring land by runway approaches is why kansas city can't accomplish anything. Take a break my friend. huh? I didn't say that. What are you talking about. I just simply gave an idea of how to use under utilized city owned land and in come all the reasons why it's impossible, impr...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Actually the middle of the airport it not a great place to watch planes. You will see them in the distance, but the ends of the runways are much better. KCI doesn't have any dedicated viewing areas and you can't get too close to the ends of the runways. Here, both DCA and BWI have very popular park...

KCI Cargo & Logistics Center
1. As announced in August 2020, UPS is tripling the size of their KCI facility. The current ramp can hold 2 widebodies and will be expanded to hold 5. New sorting equipment and building expansions will also occur. 2. KCI Logistics Center is up to Building 6 now. There is a strong belief that the new...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
I didn't think about it before, but the parking garage is going to be a great place to watch planes because there won't be anything between it and most of the airfield. Actually the middle of the airport it not a great place to watch planes. You will see them in the distance, but the ends of the ru...

Re: Downtown Casino
Without a casino, a residency-type "mall" of performance venues still could work. It would differentiate it from the Midland and the Folly. Longer-run shows could make use of the smaller theaters as they could be used for comedians, magic shows, spoken artist, and author events. The larger theater ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Council approved the bond sale. Loar and Hall voted no. What is the status of vehicle procurement? Sole source. Easy peasy. This may have been asked before but will the new vehicles be identical to the existing ones? Would love to see the route map sticker replaced with an animated LED Screen. http...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Concourse connector is a little shorter and not as grand as I imagined but it all looks very nice. Great for KC. I guess the idea is that people will zip through it on their way to/from their gates or retail nodes. I suspect that an adjacent structure could be built to house more seating or f&b as ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I maintain the belief that transit projects should not have to do an environmental study and any transit line next to existing or a previous one should get automatic planning/regulatory approval (still needs safety checks) That's stupid. None of this is important to do? That for some reason a prope...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
River Market is not only the hottest in KC IMO it's a great neighborhood by any urban living standard, with a free horizontal elevator to rest of downtown. But this list was likely created by car dependency minded people. It's not even close to the same standard as NKC is seeing. 48 under construct...

Re: Downtown Casino
No on a downtown casino. Visit other cities that have them. Depressing devoid of life dead zones with massive parking needs and they are so independent and self contained that they only take away from urban vibrancy. Casinos are fine, but not in urban areas. The only place that can pull that off is...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
To mention lawsuits, the Trolley Track encroachment lawsuit was on the scale of three years from end to end. So if someone filed one today let's look at what 5% annual construction inflation over three years does. $351 million becomes $406 million. That's a > 15% cost increase. The contingency is c...

Re: Downtown Casino
I would think KC and STL(and STJ, etc) have an interest in keeping river boat gaming. Maybe a happy medium would be “within 2 miles” of the river.
