Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

From city staff report. The plan is designed to accommodate bus, bus rapid transit, ride-sharing, taxi and even light rail. Persons arriving and departing the airport will be doing so using one of these modes and will not be arriving on foot or bike both due to its relative isolation and due to the...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

The intent of this general development plan for the Freighthouse PIEA Planning Area is to remove multiple negative (blighting) influences by redeveloping and revitalizing the 11.06 acres of land and 226,273 square feet of existing building improvements while also creating new dense multistory mixed...

Re: Union Station

My regret is trying to see it at US when there were so many better options all around the metro. I really doubt there is. Find a place to host the event and you'll find the track design creates access problems to getting spun around the right direction. They also needed to take routes where they co...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Need more and smaller retail spaces to help keep rents down. Additionally, most restaurants shouldn't be 200 seats, but rather something considerably smaller. This would lower barriers to entry for entrepreneurs and increase variety for potential customers. The city market spaces are imho about the...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I would imagine that a 39th street line would turn around at the KU Med Center terminus and not main street. 39th line would go back and forth, but you have to get cars to switch between the two, if only to get maintenance at the yard or for demand adjustments, a crisscross could have an integrated...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

the one direction can do the job though given the streetcar can go either direction. Just seems it would be faster than passing the change, turning around and “backing” into the turn. Also, would a crisscross switch better allow for an easier turn if we get an E-W extension (however unlikely) in th...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The current switch at Union Station will be replaced with a new one in the Pershing intersection. That US switch is a piece of crap that can hobble the entire system when it fails. Value engineering! Curious: Will these be bidirectional (crisscross) switches or one direction like the one at US is n...

Don’t defer to JE Dunn. The contractor is always going to go for what’s efficient for them, not what’s most prudent for the safety of joe anybody. A blanket closure is easier and cheaper than maintaining pedestrian access. The good ol’ boys like Dunn need to be prodded by citizens (via city enforce...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

So it looks like they plan to run 7-8 at peak for 10-12 minute headways. Ideally they can run same on weekends as well at some point. If free bus occurs, at least there will be other options to get between Plaza/downtown, effectively increasing net headways. And 2024 seems optimistic. https://i.img...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Calvert's at Truman and Main sold earlier this year. Anyone heard any rumblings about what's going to replace it? I wondered how long that guy would hold out. It’s still open and doing business. Wonder what the plan is. At one point, I remember seeing the place pretty much entirely emptied out. Eve...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

Baltimore will be closed (again) for a very long time? With Waddell Reed and Strata (not to mention the Loews hotel), it's will be the premier street in KC's urban core. A lot of density going in there. Wish some of that could wind up on Grand. The strata car hole will face Baltimore but the lobby ...

Found this through Aug 2018. Looks like the opening of hotels over time did drop the overall occupancy Q1-2/2018 from Q1-2/2017. But hard to say as there could have been fewer events too in 2018. https://dashboards.mysidewalk.com/state-of-the-downtown-kcmo/invest#c-56788 https://lh3.googleuserconte...

Re: Companies moving downtown

STL metro hits as lower cost than KC on most lists. It's not growing like KC is, with quite a bit of domestic out migration. That keeps housing costs lower. https://www.recenter.tamu.edu/data/population/#!/msa/St._Louis%2C_MO-IL They are also advertising their extensive light rail system, plethora ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

If the office building at 13th and Wyandotte, the hotel next to the Crowne Plaza, Waddell and Reed, Three Light, and Strata all happen with overlaps in construction times, that is going to be a very busy corner of the loop. At this point, 3 of those 2 are pretty much guaranteed to happen/overlap. T...
