Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

^ would they not close streets in East Village? Dead cherry and possibly holmes but like you said plenty of capacity over there and you can push traffic other directions and you'd have Oak to send traffic down after games :) Also, Cherry and Holmes both dead end inside the loop and would divert app...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I’ve obvserved that there’s basically no traffic change outside of like, Main through the P&L district. All these arguments about traffic seem really disingenuous. Very few here actually care about how it'll affect people in cars. It's about the grid and it's about the streetcar. More congestio...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

You literally used the words "let the housing market function." If that's not what you actually meant, then fine, but it is what you said. Functional market =/= free market. Sure, you say zoning should be fixed but you continue to argue like it isn't absolutely necessary. I've already sai...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I am just genuinely curious as to how downtown would handle say a sold out event at T-Mobile at the same time as a decent crowd at a Royals game with all the different scenarios (Oak closed or open, Walnut closed or open etc). I honestly think it would do fine even with Walnut, Oak and Grand closed...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

This is personal. This isn’t an attempt to change votes. I’m only being realistic and at some point you have to trust the people who actually make these things come to life. I don’t disagree that more details about the CBA would be nice but where I disagree is that we need more details or commitmen...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I said and agree they fumbled the roll out and delivery. There's not reason to think they same will happen with the actual project itself which is still in the conceptual phase. The reason one would believe that the same will happen with the actual project is that they fumbled the first part. And, ...

KCPowercat wrote: Thu Mar 14, 2024 10:44 am "look a lot of entities are involved, just trust them" is not a great argument for a yes vote. Especially when that's all there really is at this point.
And none of those entities have downtown KC or good urban planning as their primary priority. For many, they're not priorities at all.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Actually let's break this down further: city LOL. Too many examples of poor management to take the time to list here. If you trust the city to do 100% competent work then I'm not sure what city you're living in. state The same state that doesn't trust us to run our police department (or gun laws or ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I’d love to hear some examples of why we shouldn’t trust so many interested parties on these projects. We have the city, state, feds, private donors, Sherman, Cordish, Loews and the MLB all involved here. "They didn’t talk to anyone and tried to go at it all alone and finally did talk to peopl...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I also don't understand why people assume these things are put together by idiots who won't take all of this into consideration. Probably because this entire process has made the Royals look like idiots not taking important issues into consideration. Not to mention the city and county don't exactly...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

YIMBY market magic I have not argued for, nor do I think YIMBYs in general argue for, a free market. There is a balance to be sought between a stifling non-sensical regulated market (status quo) and a free market (what no one is actually arguing for). We can achieve a functional well-regulated mark...

Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD

The argument for local control should have little to do with crime rate. Police should be accountable to the people that they police, not one man living halfway across the state.

This site plan is way too suburban. The back of the south townhouses face 22nd with no pedestrian connection and landscaping in the way.

This isn't meant as a defense for anything she's said but would it really be NIMBYism for someone to complain about being kicked out of their house as a wrecking ball swings at it?

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

Does anyone else find it a bit hypocritical that KC Tenants has millions of dollars in it's PAC's coffers, yet they refuse to spend any money on actually building or otherwise funding housing for their membership and audience? No. Theoretically, a couple million in political activism could yield te...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

Land use regulations that protect existing property values didn't just arise by accident Correct. They arose out of racism. All the more reason why an anti-racist organization should be working against them. I agree with your points about code but doubt that these changes will make low-income housi...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

I'm not talking about collusion of any kind, "indirect" or otherwise. This isn't even specific to developers, it's just how businesses function in general. You go into business to get a return, if the return isn't there, you pull back on your investment, and if this continues, you eventua...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

So... What happens if the county sales tax passes but the team can't get the money from the city and state? Are we paying to maintain a non-existent stadium for the next 40 years? The money has already been discussed with the leaders of those two entities agreeing to go to bat for the team. No pun ...
