Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

"Remove the need for a public vote and this site still makes sense." "But only a small amount of people voted no because of the location or because they cared to save this area of the crossroads. Many things contributed to losing but same site, more information, better collaboration,...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

East Village is worse than Crossroads because you’re evicting residents of two affordable housing buildings, need to vacate many more streets, and have to contend with the Feds. If you think KCTenants was pissed about crossroads, you should see them if East Village was brought up. Easily overcome b...

Chiefs have the one of the biggest stadiums in one of the smallest markets but their attendance is a problem.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I'm almost 40 and the Royals have been terrible for pretty much my entire lifetime and even when they've had some success, it's only lasted a few years. You can't really discount how much of an impact that's had.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

In the east crossroads? It might have been a poor plan but that plan somehow managed to identify the overall best location in downtown that impacted the fewest existing businesses. There were questions about the ultimate financing issues, closure of Oak, Royals contribution and CBA that were all le...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Would it follow the East and South or would it follow Central? Could those precincts narrowly lost flip to be in-favor? Would a KCMO-only vote lead to higher turnout in the central core and outweigh votes elsewhere? Does anyone really believe that downtown and midtown residents are against the conc...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I will say that the majority, if not the vast majority of Jackson County does not support a downtown stadium today. That may be true but where would they be today had the Royals actually executed a campaign about showing people how great a downtown ballpark can be? They never even go to that. They ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Some people see them as weirdos in funny hats, and other people see them as relatable and the only organization in the city looking out for them. So they do have influence. And Sherman is aware of them because Tara with KCT did an interview with Carrington Harrison from 610 Sports and said they wer...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't think KCT has as much power as some say but they do have influence. John Sherman 100% knows who they are as does every developer currently invested in KC or looking to invest in KC. They're a cancer to our development and backed by wealthy donors. KCT has way too much influence over KCMO ci...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The reality is that KC Tenants will/would have come out against every possible proposal the Royals put on the table. The details are irrelevant, whether East Village, East Crossroads, saving the K, whatever. The issue is tax money going to a team owned by a billionaire, that doesn't change no matter...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I think I overestimated how many people had a positive impression of what a downtown baseball stadium would look like. Even in Brookside, I heard a lot of "where will you park", "where will you tailgate", "it's so convenient", etc. That's not a negative impression of d...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

as a terrible campaign, but that's not the whole story. We've all seen the bullshit arguments about how downtown is this and that, all negative. We will never get the general public to vote for a sales tax to pay for anything that requires them to come downtown. The T-Mobile Center was a rental car...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Honestly, if the Royals are done with downtown because of one failed vote that they completely screwed up, then they weren't serious about executing a quality urban project to begin with and we're probably better off. I just don't think plopping a poorly planned stadium into the middle of downtown ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I sincerely believe that any downtown stadium is doomed if it relies on this metro to vote for it. Downtown is where you go to get your car stolen, stuck in traffic and get beat up by homeless people according to so many. We've not been able to change that misconception for two decades now. Voters ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't know how to be more clear about this but I've seen the internal information where thousands of people across the metro were polled. The site and how it impacted the arts and small business wasn't a major concern for the majority of the voters who responded. It's brash to say but these peopl...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I'm not going to make the claim that East Village or another downtown site would have won because I think the three biggest sins by the teams were the late decision, horrible campaign and the Chiefs embarrassing plan, and none of that would have changed with a different site, but... It's clear in hi...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

^ would they not close streets in East Village? Dead cherry and possibly holmes but like you said plenty of capacity over there and you can push traffic other directions and you'd have Oak to send traffic down after games :) Also, Cherry and Holmes both dead end inside the loop and would divert app...
