Re: Former Perkins on 87th St, Lenexa

Some enterprising entrepreneur has set up a kiosk to sell Chiefs gear in the parking lot.

Re: Lions Choice

Update, since I know you were all on tenterhooks waiting for one: I had to get some home improvement stuff, so I decided to drive down to Menards in Olathe so I could get Lion's Choice on the way home. It was much improved over my last visit. The meat in my beef and cheddar was nice and pink. If it ...

Re: Lions Choice

As someone who loves Lion's Choice when in St. Louis, the Independence and Olathe locations have left me disappointed because the beef is way overcooked. Maybe that's on me for not asking for it to be rare, but my beef and cheddar sandwiches have had no pink at all to the meat, whereas the ones I ge...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Sounds like Shawnee is going to be stuck with Chili’s and Applebee’s as our two sit-down restaurant options for the foreseeable future.

Re: Shawnee: Proposed mixed-use redevelopment of Westbrooke Village (75th & Quivira)

Mike Frizell is live-tweeting the meeting. Members of the planning commission were not pleased with the changes, but they voted to affirm that this plan remains consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan. There was also substantial discussion about some orange awnings, if anyone needs help gettin...

Re: Shawnee: Proposed mixed-use redevelopment of Westbrooke Village (75th & Quivira)

The Planning Commission will review the developer’s request to make major revisions to the plan at tomorrow night’s meeting. The original proposal was for 530 apartments, but that’s been scaled back to “up to” 343 units. They would also like to keep the old Dillon’s building and reuse it. Demolition...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

The worst I ever saw was at 11pm at night. We flew Southwest back into town. I went to get the car while everyone else got luggage. Outside the closest doors everyone exits with their luggage there were people loading cars from four of the six lanes. At one spot I had to angle across two lanes of t...

Re: 435 in Shawnee

Specifically, I believe this is referring to the area south of Johnson Drive and west of Renner Road, if I’m not mistaken. I will be curious to see how this development fares when it’s time for public comment. Mixed-use development has had a difficult time of it in Shawnee in recent years (see the W...

I looked on the planning development map, with all future layers turned on, and the land on the southwest side of 119th and Renner isn’t highlighted.

This appears to be dead. The lot is for sale, and KDOT is using it as a staging area for construction.

...or keep the Roe store and have two. I am sure they can keep both of them busy. Doubtful. When they built the new QT on SM Pkwy in Shawnee, they didn't say anything about closing the one at Neiman and 67th, but they ended up closing it a month after the new one opened. I believe they actually sai...

While we're making requests for random retail... I just got back from visiting family in Detroit (Dearborn and Allen Park, to be specific) and I discovered they have 24-hour Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins drive-thrus. Why can't I get a waffle bowl of mint chocolate chip at 2 a.m. in KC? I feel like J...

Yep, Menards is all about the greenfield. They might consider this to be “too close” to the one they’re planning in KCK, anyway.

Re: St Louis: City and County Consider Merger

Some sort of consolidation is definitely required, even if it's piecemeal. It's depressing when you look at Hanley Road south of Highway 40 and see a Home Depot in Brentwood, a Menards in Richmond Heights, and a Lowe's in Maplewood, all within half a mile of each other, and all built with TIF by cit...

The mixed use development was originally approved in 2006, with the most recent approval by the City Council on January 9, 2017. This revised preliminary plan request is to reduce the overall square-footage in the d...

How about they renovate the stores in Shawnee and Lenexa off Pflumm first? Everyone else in town gets shiny new stores and I keep time-traveling back to 1988 every time I buy a loaf of bread.

I like how the background on page 1-5 of the Final Environmental Assessment is essentially lifted entirely from Wikipedia. TWA vetoed concepts to model the airport on Washington Dulles International Airport and Tampa International Airport, because those two airports had people movers which it deemed...

Is Menards the only company like it that buys so much land and leases out parcels itself? I don't feel like most other big-box stores operate that way.
