Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Fines don’t seem to be a deterrent. The sad thing is that the building will probably be torn down or left to rot after he has stripped it of anything of value. He was offered an astronomical amount of money for the building in a deal that would have included it in the MAC project. Now it’s a 100+ r...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Sad that's happening. Those details should remain in the building in case it's ever able to be properly renovated.

I believe he has done non-compliant code renovations before -- at a building he owns on Troost if I recall.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I believe I heard that Goodwill is staying and has renovation plans. They will not be renovating. The choices are sell and move or stay in the building as-is. But, the sale discussions are very, very preliminary if they materialize at all. Even the discussion is a good sign for that area and the fu...

Re: 1/4 cent Fire Sales Tax

I'll doubt we see much appetite for any new taxes while many residents face significant property tax hikes in Jackson County, and watch their county administrators make dubious financial decisions in Clay County.

I would imagine that a developer wants to develop the southeastern half of that block that Grinder's is on, and wants Stretch's outdoor space.

Re: As sea levels rise...

I wonder why Kansas City doesn't appear to be receiving as many new residents as rural places in N. Missouri and Western Kansas. W. Kansas is having water issues now. I can't believe that those regions would be able to support more residents -- especially since most information I've seen is that W. ...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

I would also add why should KCMO subsidize non-resident bus travel to/from Johnson and Wyandotte counties without financial contributions from them? Granted, it would likely benefit KCMO residents who work in those counties; but it would again be another example of suburbs who benefit from KCMO asse...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

The cost of free transit to the City might be a drop in the bucket if enough residents can be coaxed into taking transit instead of parking cars where they travel. Parking lots produce little to no tax revenue for the City. Surface lots are a net loss not only in revenue but economic activity. That'...

Re: KC's Big 5 needs for 2020s

One can deal with crime on transit with having police officers coming on and off the bus/streetcar and being visible. That sends a message. Cameras do help a lot. I rode transit for years in NYC and never had a problem. The most vulnerable one was to crime was when one was in a subway station late a...
