Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD
Sounds like a good idea but it’s a horrible idea. Our mayor and council cower at the political power of the public safety unions. Local control would only make things worse.

Re: Bike Lanes
People live on both sides of Paseo. It would seem obvious that property owners would want to access their property, no?KCPowercat wrote:They could have taken one side of paseo and made it a nice bikeway....the street has no traffic.

Re: 20th Street Streetscape
The 20th Street team worked pretty closely with the home2suites project to make sure all of their utility services were installed before paving was done. That project should not require utility cuts on 20th. Because of the complexity of the BMP system along 20th street, the midwest hotel/herford hou...

Re: Making downtown more pedestrian friendly
The problem with standards is that the city is not standard. The city is different. A suburban standard does not apply to the city. At some point the discussion over land use becomes intertwined. Does a car intensive use (gas station, oil change shop) belong in retail-destination area? Hard to see h...

Re: Make Grand Grand
I've always thought the city should stop doing per-project work for some of this and instead get a company on the books for all painting work. They get 100% of painting jobs with renewal options for a few more years with some defined increase until either side decided not to renew or the term ends....

Re: Making downtown more pedestrian friendly
This is an old topic but needs attention. Something needs to be done about curb cuts. They kill the streetscape. Can somebody take this up?

Re: Bike Lanes
is the bike plan the line drawing that was put together by staff more than 15 years ago? If so, I would say we need a plan revision.

I've seen the drawings. I will post if I find them. Tom Levitt led the charge to kill it.

Re: Yael: KC needs to nurture young leaders
How about Yael replaces himself with someone younger at the Star? He embodies the worst about KC. Completely agree. Yael is the kind of guy that sees storm clouds in a sunny day. Birthdays for him are not a celebration of life but a coutdown towards death. He is without a doubt the most pessimistic...

Re: The KCMO School District
I know it's been considered before but it's never passed. It's time to take a serious look at the idea. Think of how many young families move out of the core once their kids reach school age. It only makes sense to do everything possible to retain young families in Kansas City. The idea is a case o...

They should consider vouchers and credits for those who live within the boundaries of an unaccredited district. I know liberals hate the idea but keep in mind that this would be a short-lived credit. After all, kids grow up but parents remain, continuing to pay taxes.

Er... ATA doesn't just run buses to other cities willy nilly. They have contracts with those cities. They get the level of service they pay for.

Re: City manager proposes budget cuts
You know ... We complain about low density development and sprawl but have we ever stopped to think that we've lost so much population in the core that population densities in some blocks are equal to or worse than in some exurbs? I would be in favor of vacating blocks and consolidating residents in...

Innovation and efficiency is everyone's responsibility. Unless sly has somebody specifically in mind, which is entirely possible.
