Re: OFFICIAL - East Village
I looked back at an old post I did on the various possible Royals sites a couple of years ago, and to get the area east of Oak inside the loop to match the density of the area west of Oak that it would need to add approximately 2,500 residents. Not saying this is a likelihood or a possibility, just ...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
Public Plaza / outdoors space is a seemingly common convention center asset. I think if you put a urban-minded hotel on one side of this you could activate it while keeping the much needed plaza space. That's a really good point, it is an asset that I've seen conventions use. Maybe if the cap can a...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
I feel like they should open up this entire block for development instead of using this as a park. One thing that has always stuck with me from Jane Jacobs Life and Death of Great American Cities is that a park is an embellished representation of the area around it. And the area around this block is...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I am currently on vacation in San Diego, and yesterday my family and I went down to area around Petco Park. We were in the Gaslamp Quarter and there were shops and activity everywhere. This area is adjacent to Petco Park, and spanned multiple blocks in all directions. The stadium had some small stru...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I think the rushed nature of everything is partly due to the fact that they know they have a supportive Governor with Mike Parsons for the state component of the funding. His current term ends in early 2025.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I’d be interested to hear how the meeting with the Royals and the Crossroads neighborhood went if anyone in attendance has time to write about it.
How receptive is the Crossroads generally?
Are the Royals helping or hurting their cause with the neighborhood?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
From Broadway to 71, Truman to the railroad tracks, there are approximately 130 distinct surface parking or vacant lots of various sizes in the Crossroads (the small lot south of the Reiger, the whole block at 19th and Grand, and the 3 block behemoth at 20th & Oak all count as 1 apiece) Since 20...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Just wanted to put my thoughts out here: I support this site over East Village for a variety of reasons... Proximity to streetcar. I consider the streetcar our most important asset for the future of downtown as it help centralize downtown for the region as it hopefully continues to expand. Giving pe...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Just noticed that Grand is two lanes in the rendering, with the sidewalks widened on the stadium side. I think one of the slides at the presentation talked about enhancements to 18th street and Grand, but it was hard to tell.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
FYI, the renderings in the Royals tweet are huge if you open up the images a new tab. Allows you to get a better idea of the street-level experience on the north-facing rendering.

Re: Is the Streetcar Extension bringing new development as promised?
I try to keep track of all the projects going on from 31st to the River and here's what I have for the last couple of years. Even after the original streetcar was announced, development didn't really pick up immediately. It was in those next couple of years after it was done when it really got going...
