Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Frequent lurker here, but wanted to share this article about how the bookstore industry might be changing. Amazon is seen as the new bad guy, and B&N helps keep publishers interested in physical books, while providing a place where readers can discover new works and authors. How Barnes & Nob...

Re: Where is the Best Pedestrian Friendly Street in KC?

Does Lawrence count as the metro area? If so, Mass St hands down. Otherwise, I agree with Highlander: Nichols Rd.

Oops, those aren't all chains, are they?

Put me down for anything unique and/or mom-and-poppish.

Re: Your top 5 or 10 list for KC Restaurants?

It may be too late (and maybe inappropriate) for JDub's friends, but a few months ago I had lunch at The Vinyard in Weston. Run by a couple of sisters in a tiny old house, everything is ultra-fresh (they even claim to cure their own ham). My sandwich was hands-down the best I've had in the metro, an...

Re: The Ku property, 1219-21 Grand

There's plenty of history here. I think Europeans have more history/anitquity woven into the everyday fabric of their lives, so maybe they aren't as interested in "collecting." That's exactly what I was speculating on. It'd be interesting to know more about that idea. I'm glad to hear the...

Re: The Ku property, 1219-21 Grand

And…um…what exactly is wrong with the 4-story building? Please tell me they're putting in something comparable. On a somewhat related note, my girlfriend from Barcelona noticed how much Americans love antiques. Could it be that they want to fill their houses with history because there's barely any o...

He already said that the orange color was intentional, and reflects what he really saw. Snow isn't always "white"; it depends on the light around it.

Graphic design firms?  Buildings?  Interior designers?  Industrial designs?  Architects?

18 finalists in their competition. Graphic design.

KC 6th in design

I don't remember the exact details, but Print magazine held a national design competition, and KC is VERY favorable represented. They have a map showing where their finalists came from, and KC is SIXTH in the nation! If I'm not mistaken, the order was 1. NY (of course) - 88 finalists 2. SF (of cours...

New townhouses in River Market have a green design That article mentions market Station, a "323-unit luxury apartment complex that is opening soon at Second and Wyandotte," apparently opening this fall. I couldn't find a thread for this development, but assume there must be one. Can anyon...

Actually, thinking about it again, that may not be such a bad idea. If not snow skiing, then what about some sort of roller skiing (or whatever it's called) trail down from Penn Valley Park? It'd definitely be unique.

Re: lifestyle centers of the [leawood's] rich+famous!

Park Place looks nice, for what it is.  I think I would take these kinds of places far more seriously as a gesture towards a higher paradigm of suburban building if they were truly mixed use.  For example, I would like to have seen Leawood relocate it's City Hall or Library here, incorporate a larg...

Re: lifestyle centers of the [leawood's] rich+famous!

Maybe it's a step in the right direction AND totally ludicrous at the same time. It's like the suburbs have figured out what is wrong, but haven't really sorted out how to fix it. I think it would be cool if some JoCo city decided to urbanize from the inside out, beginning with its downtown and infi...
