So how come KCP never jumps in on these types of threads?

my mom grew up in santa fe hills, and lived there in that same time period.Cyclops wrote: 1963 - 1969 - 88th & Holmes - Sante Fe Hills - Loved that neighborhood - ( Yo Voltopt and Highlander)
she was at 85th and Hiawatha and went to Christ the King School.
i lived at 85th and hiawatha too, briefly, in 1980.
our stint at 85th and holmes was that kind of no curb area by Hartman School across from the old Jewish Community Center, on Kenwood. that was from about 1982-1988...
interesting little neighborhood - on saturdays a lot of people wearing yamaka's would walk down kenwood to the synagogue that used to be at 84th and holmes. we would also go swimming at the community center and i think i remember seeing a play or something there. i also remember going to the scottish rite temple on linwood and paseo for plays when i was young - early to mid 1980s... i went to st. augstine's on 79th and paseo until it closed in 1986 and i started going to Christ the King.
our family moved to 89th and ward parkway in 1987 and santa fe hills, western hills, waldo and ward parkway estates were my stomping grounds (and a little treachorous activity in north leawood - tresspassing at leawood country club, egging cars on high drive, you know, the usual)

I often peruse the Ikea catalogue on the toilet and engage in conspicuous consumption. What can I say? I like it.

1982 (born)-Wichita, KS
1984-1995-Various places in North Kansas City/Gladstone area
1995-2001- Shell Knob, MO (never heard of it?? It is a small tourist town on Table Rock Lake about 45 minutes east of Branson. My mom drug me there against my will. I refused to leave KC. But I was like 13, what can I do?)
2001-2005-Joplin, MO (college-MSSU)
present-Ozark, MO (home of Lamberts and the throw'd roll...exciting, eh?)
I am new to the board so hello everyone! I have been lurking for a few months though. There is some great photography on this site!! Good job guys!!
Like the rest of you, I lived in KC for a decent chunk of my life. I have always wanted to head back that way. For about the past year, my fiance and I (now husband...going on 1 month) have been debating on whether or not to move to KC. He is a manager for Lowes so he could easily transfer into an open position within the KC area. No guarantee on which one, but somewhere they will have a job opening in the next year. That is pretty much certain. I am a new elementary teacher. I signed a 1 year contract here to basically get all my finances together and to have something to put on my resume besides "I'm new, I don't know what to do." I have a good portion of my family still in KC so I manage to keep up to date on major things going on there. I miss being close to stuff to do! I'm sure you guys have been to Branson. Try living here for the past 10 years! If I was retired it would probably be cool, but I am 23.
The only thing that really has been holding us back on relocating to KC is my husband. I haven't quite won him over yet (any cool ideas are welcome!) He is starting to warm up to the city after various day trips and all the great photos on here but he was born and raised in this area and until he started dating me in high school, Springfield was the biggest city he had ever been to. I have seen most of the different aspects of KC, so I don't realize that he never has. Any ideas for cool "boy"type stuff to do, lemme know. He is pretty much a typical 22 year old guy, only a little more mellow. Enjoys a good beer, some good food, and something entertaining.
Hopefully, this time next year, I will be back in KC, but until then, I can live vicariously through you guys!!

Welcome!
FWIW-teachers can get jobs pretty easily in KC. Many of my friends are teachers from somewhere else and teach here and there in the Northland.
I hear the new Superintendent promises to have all the teacher vacancies filled in the KC district by the time school starts, so opportunities there.
You're going to have to bring your hubby along slowly, but maybe he will come around.

I think it's amazing how many die-hard KCMO fans on this site are natives of Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee and other places outside the KC Metro.
I'm one of them.....
