Kansas City all dressed up for the fourth
Well I finally got a chance to experience the core on the 4th...usually I'm at some silly house party or family reunion...not this year...I got to venture out and check out the sites.
It is simply amazing how many people turn out at the best view hotspots to watch fireworks....the scout statue was packed with people watching and shooting off fireworks themselves...it was like a street party.....people all around where the PAC will be and around Quality Hill watching the City market fireworks.
here is a sample of what I got....all I know is capturing firework photos is hard f'ing work....got to set the camera to open the lens a bit longer or all I get is black pictures with little bits of light...when you do that you can't move AT ALL or shots turn out terrible...luckily I got a little 6" tripod that helps but it's still not easy.....no way around that....night pictures of a city are just hard with normal digital cameras...
anyways, here are my shots....KC did it up right this year...beautiful job on the buildings around the city:
what was spelled out on 1KC place? I assume USA but I didn't see that they were spelling something out until I got home....might run back out and snap a new one if the lights are still on.
and I couple panos....
You can see the rest of them in the photo gallery here: http://www.kcskyscrapers.com/kcpics/fourthofjuly2003

Great shots! I really like the Bartle shot. They should leave some of those up year round.
How were the fireworks? There were two shows Downtown (Spirit Fest & River Market) and the PAC site would have been awesome for both.

Does 1KCP have a big "20" on the side or is that an optical illusion?

1 Samuel 18:3-4: And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.

yeah I didn't see that until I got home so I didn't get a good shot of it...I THINK it was supposed to spell USA.....I can't think of whatelse it would be trying to spell...never seen KC Place try and put words on their building...glad to see downtown decide to try a little bit.

I don't think it is supposed to be USA. If it is they did a bad job of it. If it is a 20, then what is it for? I can't think of anything that it corrilates with.

Hmmmm... That's what it is, but I don't see anything else besides, maybe a hyphen.

The Spirit Festival was first held in 1984, that makes this its twentieth year.
