There's no place like Kansas City - CNN

Post by Expat »

Check out CNN.com today (Travel Section).  There is an article called "There is no place like Kansas City-This Midwestern town is sizzling".  I think the article originated from Cooking Light.  Positive press!

Sorry, I don't know how to link.  And, sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere by someone else.

Nice! Although I could do without the lame "Wizard of Oz" reference.

Also it should be pointed out that is misleading to say the University of Missouri is located in Kansas City

Didn't know that fact about the apartment at 48th and Summit. Spooky!

There's also a link in the CNN article to a Southern Living article on the Powell Gardens east of KC.

i think the sculpture heads on top of the apartment were kind of a big point of contention a few years back, because the apartment building is on some kind of historical register, and the owner was supposed to go through some review process to get the modifications approved, but he just went ahead and glued the heads on there (i don't think he knew about the review process, so the controversy was after the fact).

yeah the Landmarks Commission sued to have the building owner take the heads down in 2004 and 2005, but they are still there.

Great article!   But, is anyone else sick of the Wizard of Oz references (like, "There's no place like...")  Most of the metro is in Missouri...so why people keep using Wizard of Oz/Kansas references is beyond me.

it's a puff piece aimed at people glancing at the screen/page as they wolf down their Wendy's salad.  it's not a New Yorker essay.

yeah they completely discredit themselves by not breathlessly extolling the shopping at Oak Park Mall or the revved up fun at the speedway.

cool stuff!  The only thing missing is a plug for the MAX for getting around (excluding Blue Bird and 18th/Vine).  But good stuff nonetheless  8)

Nice read from CNN. Kc is starting to get some love, it helps when 7billion is pumping into the metro! Come on in, there's plenty of BBQ for everyone.
