Now I understand what you're saying...found a visual for everyone...

Question: The whole board is a screen, but they only use that digital "box" area for the moving images...correct?

They can and do use the whole screen for video sometimes but yes not all the time as shown...that's probably a perfect 16x9 ratio frame or something

Yeah, I think they kept the oval shaped scoreboards due to the fact that they want to keep as much of the old Arrowhead intact as they could, and the renovations were also suppose to enable the Chiefs to add the rolling roof at a later date. So I think a rectangular scoreboard may have created problems on both fronts.

Back to the Royals, I went tonight (left early) but the Hall of Fame is VERY well done.  Impressive what they fit into such a small space.

They put concrete down in all the upper RF area where the grass was being trampled...good idea there.

I understand the practical reasons - advertising and geometry - but the net effect is extremely underwhelming compared to the video boards installed in NFL stadiums the last several years.

Extra cost for Kauffman Stadium work won?t cost taxpayers
Indeed, taxpayers won't pay any more, said Kevin Uhlich, the Royals' senior vice president for business operations. But the Royals don?t expect to spend much beyond the team's original $25 million pledge.

Interest from the bonds grew to the point that it could pay for going beyond the $250 million budget - at least so far, Uhlich said.

The project has yet to close out; a few million more in expenditures have not yet posted.

Uhlich said the Royals had been fortunate that the project was so swift and on the mark.

The final figure is expected to climb close to $270 million, he said.

As for Arrowhead's renovation, Rowland reported that $318 million has been spent so far. The work is on schedule.

Bleh, between that and the "Party Passes", it's easy to say that JJ has lost his mind. Also need to mention no hot water in the joint or the people getting it on in the handicapped stalls.

Nice!!  It looks like they are adding some sort of backing to the crown as well.

I wonder if there will be any more minor changes this off-season?  Hopefully something with that ugly metal centerfield wall below the scoreboard!  At least put in some shrubs or something  :-k

Here are a few more pics from the Royals' blog:

Thank God. It's about time. I was wondering if they were ever going to do it.

Last night, the back of the scoreboard was all lit up and I thought it was odd to only have the plain gray scoreboard lit up, since nothing was displayed on it.

Since they aren't going to use blue metal panels for the backing perhaps they should use the blue lighting like they have on the sides of the stadium. On a side note, renovation for Kauffman Stadium is now over $270 million!

That's actually a brilliant idea.

Yeah - I think the white was a poor choice.  It would have looked a lot better and much less "shed-like" if it was painted blue with a white "KC" on it.  I suppose that is a relatively easy fix is someone with good taste happens to be on the staff.
