Things are starting to pick up for the battered westport. Coming soon...

Sung Son....a Vietnamese restaurant

Teadrops....a full service tea shop

New York Pizza....pizza shop.

Now where are the bars?

I think we can easily have both but I know what you're saying....

I would love to have a few bar districts to choose from....Plaza, Westport, and SoLo.

I don't want all of the bars to leave Westport, but the giant clubs are more appropriate Downtown. There is more room for them there, more room for traffic and crowds, etc. I'd love to see Downtown and the Plaza as the big regional entertainment areas, with Westport becoming more of local entertainment area.

I think Westport would become much more of a local nightspot if the discotheques went elsewhere, and I agree heartily that they would fit well downtown. What draws the people from outside the relatively immediate neighborhood is not Buzzard Beach or AC's Garage. People come from Lee's Summit and Lenexa for Have a Nice Day, America's Pub, and XO.

In a seperate vein, how the heck can people complain about a lack of parking options in Westport with a straight face? If anything, the neighborhood should reduce parking availability, and stop encouraging people to drink and drive.

Diversified dining options, me like :)

I'm all for getting the bars downtown. Bar hopping in a downtown atmosphere is so much cooler, there's just an electricity being among all the highrises and old buildings. If the bars that attract the frat crowd want to stay in Westport that is fine with me.

I gotta disagree, send the frat bars (XO, Have a Nice Fuck, etc) downtown where there is space, parking, and streets for these huge places. They shouldn't be next door to single family houses, like XO is now. Downtown has room for the crowds, Westport doesn't. Leave Westport with the neighborhood bars and local dives.

update:

Watkins & Co. Inc. is hoping to put either an authentic Mexican restaurant or barbecue restaurant in the former Bait Shack space at 4113 Pennsylvania Ave. in Westport.

New York Pizza has received its permits to begin construction in the Westport Marketplace.

An associate of mine who lives near the Uptown Theater has been tryin' to open an authentic Mexican restaurant in Westport called Xcaret a.k.a. Paradise.

Hasn't there been a sign hanging in the former New World Bistro site on Westport Rd proclaiming Xcaret Coming Soon? Its been there for over a year. What's up?

By the way, New World Bistro was one of my favorite places. I was said to see it go.

2 out of 3 ain't bad. Sucks about the NaturalWear location. That spot is on one of the best intersections in the city and we give it to a chain Mexican place? Bleh.

was that store natural wear? the address given is 435 westport rd, which is closer to Broadway???

I agree if that is the location, what a waste....unless it turns into a cool bar type place in addition to some cheap food.

Yeah, that was Natural Wear. Southeast corner of Westport and Pennsylvania. Now we get a boring chain that is dark at night -- no improvement.

According to their website, this is the first Moe's in Missouri, but there is already one in the metro on 135th in OP.
